David James

James didn't have much to beat. Jahmene's Angels should have been called Devils much more suitable for a performance with so many tuning issues, for the last big note he had to search for it and only found it in the last few hundredths of a second. As for Let It Be, the slower lower parts were embarrassing, he only made it passable during the louder bits. I was brought up in quite a musical household and maybe my brain became more sensitive to tuning issues as a result but auto-tune here we come in a big way for Jahmene if he tries to issue CDs. I remember watching a documentary on the making of an LP of West Side Story with Kira Te K and one of the 3 Tenors. The executives were so insistent on absolutely exact tuning even those great singers had to repeat time after time, no auto-tune at that time. Those executives would have given up with Jahmene on day 1. Please judges you should have told him the truth early on in the competition, then maybe he would have sorted it out by the final.

Very good post. I made many comments along the same lines and am surprised that the vocal coach made no attempt to help him address the issue.

I remember Rebecca had similar tuning problems earlier on, but she did improve week on week, presumably with the help of formal coaching.

Very much so. The public got it right this time.

I think it was the right decision completely.

Great post. The vocal coaching over the past couple of series has been crap because the vocals of many of the acts have not got any better. Jahmene's vocals should have matured over the course of the show, not stayed the same/got worse.
