If you root you won't receive any more OTA updates.

That is incorrect.

If you root and that is it, then you will get OTA updates and can update to a newer software version. The only side effect is that you will lose root access when you update and so will have to gain root again.

If you root AND install a Custom recovery/or custom rom/or delete/change any system files etc... then you will not get OTA updates. If you're on stock rom you will get ota but do not accept it as it will mess up the phone/soft brick it.

I just suggest rooting the phone and doing nothing else. Then accept the updates as normal. If you want to be 100% safe then unroot the phone before updating.

I rooted my S3 (on vodafone), and nothing else. Whilst the updates would download, they would not install. From reading other sites, I was under the impression that if you rooted your phone, you would not be able to install OTA updates. However since I use vodafone, I cant say whether other networks will or wont update, I know for sure vodafone wont.

If you use Kies you may get updates that way.
