The only reason James ended up in the bottom 2 one week

He had removed his ear piercing. It must hold magical powers, because the following week he had it back again and his vote share started to climb, eventually seeing him become the first act to win after being in the bottom 2.

Absolutely wrong. He was actually struggling for votes since week 1 and they stayed the same til week 7. James being in the bottom 2 was the best thing ever. As he made people realise he actually wasn't safe and they took it seriously.

That was only because the ear piercing needed a tweak. Once it had been serviced and put back in it worked wonders.

The voting figures proved that the vast majority of viewers do not vote!

The general public opinion was that Maloney was awful and James was great, yet the voting results had that completely flipped on it's back! Just utterly bizarre and must be concerning for the producers.

People read too much into it. The voting percentages were extremely close, it could've been any 2 bar Christopher and Jahmene.

I must admit I found myself strangely drawn to his ear and didnt vote for him the week he didnt have it in for some reason, which now makes sense

Not at all. As with other years the figures reflect that in earlier weeks the public voted on the basis of what they were hearing each week and the history of this show is that an underdog can often do well for several weeks. In fact though if you look at the results you'll see that Christopher only just made it into the final ahead of UnionJ.

James was quite near the top even in the early weeks and he's not the first winner to have been near the middle of the voting before he dropped into the bottom two. Even when he did drop into the bottom two there was not much in terms of the margins that week in the public vote.

It looks like he may have picked up a lot of Ella's supporters but ultimately I think when it came to the choice of who should win and go on to record an album with Syco the public went with James.
