Will a more pop music focused x-factor get the viewers back next year

Watching last night when Rhianna started singing we found love slowly, then she speeded it up then the crowd were the most alive they had been.

Next year we should forget the search for alternative, credible artists and just go back to finding pop stars.

The final was just one dreary ballad after another and whilst ballads have their place, I do feel 2012 was not a very poppy x-factor and this contributed to the viewer switch off

I didn't realise it had ever become a show for "alternative, credible artists"? That passed me by.

I think the way the crowd responded to Rihanna's performance was more to do with the fact that she's Rihanna than anything to do with the finalists and their singing styles. I can't speak for anyone else but I'd be more inclined to switch off a "poppier" series than one where there's a mix of voices and genres (to the extent that the X Factor allows).
