Getting one for my birthday next monday and i'm not even being allowed to open the box and look at it so all these updates are going to pile up
Can i ask what broadband you use and what your normal speeds are like? i've heard online the updates can take from as long as a few hours to as little as 20 minutes and i'd like to get an idea how long it could take for me so i can watch a movie or something instead of just watching a bar fill up |

I'm with BT Infinity & the updates + installation took roughly a hour & a half which is ridiculous. If you're doing the update for the first time, it'll download them all in one big update

if you cant open till your birthday, be prepared for a good two hours to download and then maybe 30 minutes to install it dont forget to go into the settings and disable the power off, even though it says it will be disabled when you start the update (paranoia) and then you can set your NN id up |

I really hope it doesn't take that long, i've got mates coming round to have a go of it
it would not be great if my first experience on the WiiU is 'let's stick the PS3 on and play some fifa instead while it downloads' |

The first update took me a good hour and a half, the second about 30 minutes. Not to mention the time it takes to install them after they have downloaded. Nintendoland has a big update as well. Oh and it'll take about 3 hrs to charge the controller.
![]() In all honesty, I'd update everything well before Christmas day ..if only to make sure everything is working as it should. If you're charging the controller, downloading the firmware updates and games updates, transferring /creating Mii's..and setting up your ID etc..you'll probably waiting 5 hrs before everything is done. |

The 1st update took about 1 hour & the 2nd about 30mins ... I'm on 100meg with a decent netgear dualband router ... but because the wiiu isn't 5ghz wirelessN compatable it's stuck on 2.4ghz wirelessG which limits the speed 2 about 20meg ... I believe nintendo bandwidth throttle the connection so ya not gonna get fast downloads anyway.
