I'd say its an extreme form of papering over the cracks in regards to the player. Three players scored a combined 11 goals against one of the tournaments, amateur sides.

Brazil for instance, played against three sides ranked higher than themselves, and one of their players got a goal less than Torres, despite not having, basically a free game to get his tally up.

Tahiti essentially skewed the whole tournament in terms of individual achievement, I can't see why anyone would think otherwise.

The only way we will get £15-£30m is if whedon247 becomes an overnight billionaire and buys a football team.

They are talking about £12m for David Villa and he's a couple of years older than Torres. So in theory we should realistically be able to get close to £20m for him.
But he's still got 3 years left on his contract at various estimates between £170k and £200k a week. He's not going to be asking for a transfer any time soon, and who can blame him ?
I suppose to find a buyer willing to honour the rest of his contract, we would have to take a massive loss on his market value ?

Regarding Torres...he's too much of a risk for anyone to pay that much for him, especially when you consider the wages he'd demand. It's easy to say he's worth £15-30m, but to suggest that anyone would actually pay it for him is..... If he ever leaves it will be around £10m + us paying a load of his wages. I think its safe to say we're stuck with him.

He is still worth a few quid, While it might not be 30 million it will be closer to that then it will be to 10. It might not be to a English club but there are some clubs abroad who would rightly see him more in the 20 odd million pound bracket. Personaly I would be more then happy for him to stay, He might not be the goal machine the media want but he still has done a very decent job for us.

I dont pay any attention to what we pay for players as its all inflated due to the insane football is run nowadays. Any player we buy is not worth the money we pay be it Torries for 50 million or Joe Blogs for 5 Million none of them are worth it. He has come to Chelsea and done what can be expected of him. Torres is still a massive "name" in world football. I'm a little surprised one of the nouveau riche clubs hasn't shown any interest, they appear to be less interested in current form and age, and more eager to obtain players with big reputations.

I agree. His wages alone will put other clubs off and I'd rather we fulfilled the contract and used him as and when his form allowed than gift him away with a massive pay off. I only hope we've learn't the lesson that his price tag shouldn't equal starts when out of form (which he has mostly been). Based on last PL season it should be Lukaku > Ba > Torres.

I hope we're not seriously interested either. Last thing we need to do is buyout our rival's problems. The timing of his fallout was pretty poor and we don't need anymore fragile minded strikers on huge wages. Torres is our problem, but since we signed the contract I'd rather we let him play for his place than gift him away with a massive payout. World cup next year might motivate him to be a bit better.

We paid a big fee, for somebody in his position, because Arsenal would have rather not have sold to us, or City. Ultimately they had to sell him, because of him being in the last year of his contract, but they still played hardball and got a decent price. That's all that I'm saying that we should do with Rooney, except that we're in a stronger position than Arsenal were, because he has longer left on his contract.

I just cannot wee wayne and coleen (and their children) moving to europe. They seem family oriented, i doubt wayne would learn a new language or fit into a foreign culture too well.
