We did bring in Ramires and Luiz, so we were gradually making changes. Carvalho went, never quite sure what happened there, I thought he was worth another season or so. Ballack was released, so our midfield was suddenly weaker. Did Essien get the first of his injuries then as well ?
I liked Ancelotti, and believe he would have gradually changed the structure of the team.
The problem was, we hadn't declined enough to warrant wholesale changes, and as I said we looked pretty darned good at times. But I agree, it was left too late and in the end we were reduced to making a few panic buys. Rebuilding should be a constant job.”

He was amazing in that season but it was after that he started to not decline but it was never quite the same, Not saying we should have written him off but rather phased him very slowly out when in fact we became more relient on him. He actually played more games for us the season after then the double season (from memory)
I just think maybe people inside the club could see he was slower at making the changes then they would have liked. I had no problem with the guy and yes i think he would have done it in the end but sadly at Chelsea time is the one thing we can not buy. We seem to buy a player the season we need him and not like some clubs a season or so before and swap between the 2 and get the best of both of them.
Man Utd rebuild their team without anyone really noticing as its a slow process and more sutle then our attempts at it.
