Who was the best Nirvana or Oasis.

Who would even compare the two?

Grunge vs. Britpop

Hard to compare the two really. For what it's worth though, I prefer Oasis.

If it's grunge vs britpop, i'm voting grunge, and Nirvana. Which is easy for me being a total seattle scene freak.

All of Nirvana's stuff is pretty decent. Even some of the rare demos are bloody brilliant.

Oasis, they were good for two, maybe three albums, and that early period where they couldn't record a bad b-side. Afterwards, not so much.

Nirvana - however it's hard to have a true comparision due to the circumstances. Nirvana had three studio albums of high quality and then no more.
Oasis kept going for years meaning not only did they have far more songs of varing degrees of quality but albums also.

I like them both, I'd find it difficult to compare one favourably over the other when their careers and output were so different.

Not a huge fan of either but I dislike Oasis less because their 1st 2 albums were superb. As for Nirvana, the odd good track such as Come As You Are and In Bloom but the rest if it is just noise to me.

Agreed. In many ways Oasis were the anti-Nirvana, coming out with songs like Live Forever just after Kurt's death. But they both played a massive part of their cultures at the time, and both great bands who will be remembered for a long time.

haha how can you compare Nirvana to Oasis? But having to choose, I'd go with Nirvana, easy.

Both! I can’t understand how you can compare them when they’re different genres, one lasted a lot longer than the other and has more material out etc :S

I'm a massive fan of both! I own every available track produced by both bands and I listen to and respect them both. Oasis are the soundtrack to me youth and I just love Nirvana's work, regardless of whether its depressing or not and regardless of what people think about me for listening to them. Not so long ago I even taught meself to play 'Something In The Way' by Nirvana - I just love that song! I'm not even going to attempt to compare them or pick one.

Nirvana by a country mile.

For me, Oasis seem a bit dated and samey now, but Nirvana get better with every listen.

Both were great at what they did. Nirvana top it for me though, simply because of Kurt being an absolute unique legend.

Nirvana...easily.

Nothing wrong with Oasis, well I suppose you could say there's a lot wrong with Oasis,, good enough band, but you're comparing them with Nirvana here.

Noel did say though that Live forever was written as a polar opposite to the Nirvana track I Hate Myself and I Want To Die..

Oasis, but love Nirvana as well.

Hmmm. Based purely on the songs I would have to say Oasis. They produced more memorable singles than Nirvana did. When I think of Nirvana I just think of Smells Like Teen Spirit and Come As You Are. When I think of Oasis I think of Cigarettes and Alcohol, Wonderwall, Champagne Supernova, Some Might Say, Don't Look Back In Anger, and other stuff like She's Electric.
