I've owned various kindles and a kobo glo. Kindles are easier to use. You can more or less use the kindle without a computer providing you have a wifi connection or the 3G version. The kobo can be used without a computer, but if you want to buy from other stores (not kobo), you need to use a computer and adobe digital editions. On the whole I found that kobo's prices were expensive and therefore I bought books from other stores, hence having to use a computer. It may just be my personal experience, but I find the kobo store to be badly organised and it isn't as seemless buying a book on the kobo glo as it is on a kindle.

I have no problem using the computer and ADE with epub readers but I don't see why I should have to when the kindle is much more straight forward. I guess it comes down to individual preferences and choices. In my opinion I find the kindle to be a much nicer device with better features, however some people will prefer the kobo.
