If the comments from the Now TV on its own forum are correct, the sports channels won't be live. Surely some mistake?

Hi Houghton1986. Thanks for your post regarding Youview. Due to certain restrictions, Youview can not have specific options added to its service, live TV is one of those restrictions so unfortunately, it will not be getting added.

Hi walkerx. Thanks for getting in touch. We understand where you are coming from. Our live channels are available on other devices, here is a list of all the devices we are supported on.
We do have a My Ideas section where you can post your ideas for our developers to see and they can highlight the post as either coming soon, under consideration or if it is not possible.
Hope this helps.
All the best, Shannon.”

We appreciate your feedback. I completely understand where you are coming from, however there are no plans to change the YouView situation in the immediate future in regards to Live Tv or price. However we are always looking at improving NOWTV in the long term and hope we can make place where all users will recieve the complete benifit of the service.
I hope you enjoyed your time with us. Aaron.”

Sounds like they will be live, just not on the Youview platform.

With movies that's not a massive issue, but for sports it surely will be and will affect takeup of this service through Youview.

Oh...my...god...

So what they said previously is not true. There will be no live sport via the YouView NowTV portal.

I wondered about this, you know. Thinking eh? How can BT Vision (a content stakeholder) and Sky Now TV (who are only a content provider) show the same live sports channels on the same platform?

And now we know the answer - they can't.

I bet $ky are fuming about this. Which might not be a bad thing, where driving down their costs is concerned (from a users point of view).

And good spot, 1andrew1!

Sorry, that's what I meant. We need a YouView forum!
If correct I'm very disappointed. The fact that the movie channels are not live on YouView suggests it is correct.

Thanks Visionman1 but I wish I hadn't found it!
However I thought that the YouView platform was meant to be neutral so multiple broadcasting of the same channels could occur? If it's a platform issue, could Sky acquire some of the IPTV channels from Connect TV and use these? YouView can't receive them at the moment but will in the future.

Sky could I suppose sell live channels to non BT / Talk Talk users but there aren't that many proportionally who are buying full priced boxes.

Too true, too true.

But the above info, helpfully provided by 1Andrew1, means only TalkTalk and BT Vision will be 'broadcasting' Sky Sports via the YouView platform. So it will be interesting to see the pricing packages on offer when they both launch.

Don't 'cha just love competition! lol.

Oh, and it's been previously been posted like 'Oh no! Now TV won't be broadcasting live Sky Sports! A disaster for YouView!'

When in actual fact the truth is by far the opposite, as both BT and TalkTalk will be providing such.

And, as I said above, the future pricing model will be interesting to see. Particularly as it won't be via a Sky lock-in contract. The channels will be provided via TalkTalk and BT only on a month-to-month-contract. Which gives choice to the user, and empowers the user too, not the provider. Which was of course the whole point of the YouView project in the first place.

TalkTalk are already broadcasting SkySports live over YouView. https://sales.talktalk.co.uk/info/tv...ost/sky-sports

Was it ever explicitly stated as live sport via YouView? They said sport would be coming and clearly live streaming will be available via all the other devices Now TV is on but just not on YouView. I can't decide if that's a platform issue (and if it is, it really doesn't bode well for YouView at all because they can't be doing with yet another hurdle) or if Sky are choosing not to make live content available to it purposely. For all we know, it could be a game by Sky revolving around the CAT ruling to ensure their own customers get the best deal. Few different ways to look at it.

NOW TV is the phoenix that rose from the ashes of Sky's aborted Picnic service on digital terrestrial television which Ofcom gave the green light to.

This move would indicate a complete 180° u-turn by Sky from having its own service to distribute Sky Sports via DTT to IPTV to restricting it to a couple of companies behind a line rental/third party multiple subscription paywall.

I don't think the generic YouView users are aware of this issue at the minute, at least - I haven't seen a topic on the official YouView community forum. I suspect if this gets known about by those people on the official forum, civil war may well break out.

Sky have made a major investment in the IPTV box Roku!!

The Roku box I have is happily running all features of the current NOWTV including live movies, so fully expect it to support live sport when that becomes available.

The major reason I did not invest in a Youview box at the start was the complete lack of information forthcoming on how IPTV channels would be handled.
At the time I was told I was being unduely pessimistic, but now I'm not so sure....

Now TV and YouView have probably never said that Now TV's sports channels would be live on YouView. But they have had plenty of opportunities to state that they would not be live and have not done so as far as I can see.

It will support live sports when they're added... It's just YouView that won't. It's not an IPTV problem because TalkTalk deliver Sky Sports fine to their customers... Could it be down to those two letters... BT? Are Sky preparing for war and preempting BT's entry into the market by making sure YouView customers get no good Sky Sports deal unless they have a dish?

My reading of the NOW TV forums (relevant quotes below) was that NOW TV wanted to offer live channels but was not permitted to on the platform otherwise it would have defended the decision more vigorously. I guess it could not put the boot in to YouView's policies too much. I would like to hear YouView's answer to the question.

What on earth does that mean though? What's the difference with Now TV offering live streamed content to, say, TalkTalk offering it streamed live through their app currently? Doesn't make sense that....Like you say, I'd like to hear YouView's answer.

Someone's raised a point over on the BT forum's but it's not been replied to.

“ Martin They do not say no live sports, they say no live channels. Nothing stops them offering PPV sports via their YouVIew app.”

But if this does turn out to be the case, which I hope is the case, why did NOW TV not state this? The post I have quoted from on NOW TV specifically mentions "live TV" which would seem to cover both PPV and channels.

Well that's it then. I've been considering getting Youview if and when Sky Sports 1&2 (minimum) became available on it. This would let me ditch my Sky TV subscription and box (I have Freesat too and three stacked boxes is just too much!).

Sadly, I will definitely have to wait now until these sports channels become available via Youview IPTV - whenever that is.

The summer of 2013, is the date they want to Multicast launch the sports channels, which will include Sky and BT Sports and Eurosport 1 & 2. And as you know D@ve, they'll be recordable, too.

If you get YouView from Talktalk, you can already get Sky Sports 1 & 2 along with 3 & 4 and F1.

Yep, that's my target now.

Thanks but it's not an option for me as I'm in contract with BT Infinity with 9 months to run. Stuck with Sky TV until then I'm afraid as I want SS 1 & 2. I don't want a BT Vision box I want "Youview from BT", with Vision and SS (if the price is right).

September 2013 sounds a perfect time to switch over as all the linear channels should all be launched and recordable on BT and TT and with the launch of BT Sport there should be some great deals around from all providers.

And thats exactly the way to look at it, 1andrew1. Though the target is to launch the new live channels by July 2013.

And where sport is concerned, the channels we know about at the moment are -

Sky Sports 1, 2, 3, 4 and F1 via TalkTalk and possibly BT too, though that is just speculation on my part.

BT and Sky Sports 1 & 2 and Eurosport 1 & 2. And these will be in HD, too, via BT. But I don't know what HD content TalkTalk will offer, as I'm not with them.

So, all the above on offer, without having to subscribe to Sky. Lovely. Because YouView is all about giving the user the choice as to where they recieve their services from.

And I see not one user on the YouView forum has batted an eyelid about no live sports or TV via Now TV. Because they don't need it via Now TV, or Sky. As they'll already be plenty on there, come next year. lol

How do you know what will / won't be in HD? Nobody knows what Sky channels BT will offer, never mind whether they'll be in HD or not.

Those channels available on YouView - without having to subscribe to Sky as you say. Have you seen the price of Sky Sports on TalkTalk? I can see Sky looking like a good deal compared to how much additional YouView services will cost (i.e. premium sport content) when you factor in BT prices currently - compared to what you receive in comparison to other providers.

Your last comment about people who want live sport being happy because there will already be plenty of it on there next year... what do you mean by that exactly?
