Is Young Apprentice good this year?
It's the first series of The Apprentice I've not bothered to watch since I started watching during the second series.
![]() I got bored of it, it was off air for a long time during the 2010 election and afterwards it made a very welcome return - but since then they've been putting them out every few months and it's overkill. I also lost interest when I realised it stopped being about the candidates business skills, and about keeping those who make good TV and since the format was changed to entering into a business partnership the winner is now based solely on that - making the rest of the show a complete waste of time. |

I kind of prefer the Young Apprentice than the main series these days, just because the prize and the winner seems more influenced by the events of the series than it does in the main version.
The change of prize in adult Apprentice has just made the whole show feel completely pointless to me. There's absolutely no reason anymore to watch the tasks, because virtually nothing in them has anything to do with the final result. We're essentially just watching eleven weeks of filler contestants being whittled away for sport, while those who may have been earmarked as possible winners in advance just need to get on by without making a total fool of themselves. The original format was probably the same in hindsight, with a particular person earmarked to do the job, but at the very least, it felt like candidates could prove themselves throughout the series and then pull out a win. (Yasmina for example doesn't strike me as someone who would have been a potential winner at the start) In contrast, the Junior Apprentice feels a bit more natural. With the prize being as open as "money for the future" it gives the impression that the best person can win, and not just the person who enters with the best idea. |

Honestly, I don't think it's been great this year. I think they have had too many weak links (Amy, David, Andrew, Patrick) and got rid of good people too early (Sean, Alice, Navdeep).
I disagree with you about the overkill, I have no problem with the programme being on as frequently as it is. I thought that in 2011, both the adult and the Young series were excellent, and I even enjoyed the adult series this year - a lot of people seemed to think that the adult series wasn't very good this year, but I enjoyed it. I just think something has gone wrong with this series. It's a shame, because I generally enjoy Young Apprentice more than the adult series. Series 1 and 2 were great. I haven't gone off it entirely, I have no doubt it can bounce back next year as strong as ever. If you're counting adult and Young series, this is the eleventh series, so there is bound to be the odd series that is a little off. I hope this isn't the last series of Young Apprentice though, I like it more than the adult series. (The BBC have implied it is the last, but have yet to make an official statement confirming this. And Sugar has said in interviews that he is on a non-exclusive contract and may move to another channel if the BBC does cancel it, so there may be more series.) I won't remember this series as being one of the best, but if Lucy or Steven win, it could be saved somewhat. |

Meh. It's alright... just the same old same old really. I think it'll end within a year or so, the tasks are nearly identical every year now, just modified slightly, i.e. instead of developing a piece of fitness equipment, it's a product you use on the beach, or a cook book. All a bit monotonous now. I still watch it but the only bit I'm really interested in is the boardroom to be honest, and that's just as stale now.

Not really, not bad but not great either. Then again Young Apprentice has always been a time-sink in between the main shows.

I really like the concept of the Apprentice, where you can watch people take on business challanges and you can analyse what characters can make a team work and what can make a task turn into fiasco. Very interesting what makes a good PM.
Back to your question tho, I think the adult apprentice is more realistic and gripping. I find the young apprentice still worth watching, but more entertaining than serious.I know they are only kids but it does annoy me how some of them think they know it all and Sir Alan goes a bit soft and very regretfull with them. |

If there is a problem with Young Apprentice its that they don't really get enough chances to show what they can do or multiple chances to be PM. You also decide the final two, inevitably, by task rather than interview - which makes it more arbitary. |

I actually thought that the most recent episode of Young Apprentice was excellent. I'm not quite sure why, I just found it particularly enjoyable.

I don't think it's been as good as Series 2 of YA but I have thoroughly enjoyed it, and I think it's been my favourite apprentice series for tasks ever. I actually prefer Young Apprentice to normal Apprentice, not sure why, I usually find them more competent than the adults actually

Young Apprentice has the flaw that most of the contestants do not want to start a business any time soon, or perhaps ever. Instead they want to go to university. Even Zara, last year's winner, who had a genuine vocation, went off to film school.

![]() I hope the BBC don't cancel it, there are rumours that they are thinking about it, even though they haven't officially announced that. Sugar is apparently thinking about taking it to another channel if they cancel it. |

Perhaps the prize should be changed to make it more like the one that used to apply to the adult series, and that would justify the title, Young Apprentice. Rather than (or as well as) a £25,000 investment, there could be a pre-university period working alongside Lord Sugar so the winner can see how real businesses work.

I gave up when Alice was fired. She was so clearly the best contestant in that particular week, I just lost interest. It's a pity, I've enjoyed previous series of Young Apprentice, but now it's gone the way of the senior show. They are more interested in keeping those that make for "good telly viewing" than serious, aspiring, business people.
