Avril Lavigne released 'Girlfriend' in 6 versions, just with the chorus in a different language.

The French one is particularly notable for her dreadful pronunciation, while the Chinese version probably sounds the most bizarre! The fact that she sings the verses and backing vocals in English as normal makes it all even more jarring too.

Canto pop versions of English pop songs were quite common in the 80s.

There are numerous examples I could name including those by Anita Mui, Leslie Cheung, Sally Yeh and Sandy Lam.

Presenter Danny Baker (The Candy Man) has lots of these songs in his collection and some of them are very good whilst some are just weird. He used to play them on his afternoon show on Radio London.
