Sprouts are probably the most flavoursome veg.

For a really atmospheric xmas, try sprouts, butternut squash and chestnut stuffing (sweet potatoes would also help)

I love them, especially well seasoned and with bacon...and they're an essential part of Bubble and Squeak on Boxing Day.

I love them and would eat them by the dozen except that they are a bit indigestible Also they smell the house out.

I think a problem that many may have is with frozen, boiled to buggery sprouts.
They don't have to be like that.

This is a bit like what I would normally do: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qkEWhIf_Apg

The one I make has marsalla in it too, they are yummy.”

My favourite recipe is stirfried with bacon, red onion and balsamic.
Probably not suited to Chistmas lunch though.

The bacon and chestnut sounds like it would go well.

Another one who likes sprouts and luckily for me everyone in my family (bar one) likes them too.

I have them every which way, but for Xmas it is parboil, then fried with pancetta, onions and halved cooked chestnuts. I

We all love them. I cut a cross in bottom and steam them above another veg. Perfect. If there are any left over I slice them and fry up with other leftovers the next day.

I thought they were maligned?!
Going by this thread 90+% of people should love them... which isn't the case!

The Christmas Eve ritual of putting in little crosses on them.

Possibly as it's a food forum and maybe people know how to cook them.
I didn't like them when growing up but now like sprouts and cabbage, although not boiled.

Perhaps tastes are changing, and more people are liking them then.
Don't know though, I was out for our school staff dinner last night. 42 of us there, nearly all veg swiped from the tureens... except the sprouts. There was a shedload left at the end.

I think very few people wrongly cook them now, especially in restaurants. Plenty of people going to office christmas dinners will hav had them, properly cooked... i.e. not a grey mush.

I can't say I have ever seen grey sprouts. They are always green and intact whenever I have seen them.

Sprout paté is something I am going to try soon.

Ah, lucky.
When my gran was alive she used to put them onto boil at about 9am.... meaning they were rancid and disintigrating by lunchtime!

...Not that I really like them when they're steamed and done properly either.
