Welcome to the 2012 edition of the Champion of Champions contest! Slovakia won in 2011 with Kristina's 'Life Is A Game' and they have decided that the contest should return to their capital of Bratislava

We've had 15 amazing shows this year and now it's time to decide which song was the cream of the crop.

This process will begin with national finals. The qualifiers have been determined using the results of the 15 contests and a list of all the songs involved can be found on the wikia.

After the National Heats, the 80 qualifiers will be split into 3 semi finals, with the best from each progressing to the grand final.

Most countries will have 1 qualifier. Any country that won the contest this year will have 2 qualifiers and Wales who managed 2 victories will have 3. The wildcard round which features 7 songs that did well for minor countries (no offence ) will also select 3 qualifiers.

- The national finals will be hosted by 4 different people and will be opened every few days. Please keep an eye on the thread to make sure you vote in time and save your favourites. The first section A-E should be opened in the next day or two.
- Recaps for all heats will hopefully be available on youtube although playlists will definitely be available for all national finals.
- Voting will take place by PM, as per usual, but with a scoring system of 5 - 3 - 2 - 1. Just put the name of the song next to your vote so the host knows how you wish to vote. Make sure you are sending your votes to the correct host.
- You CAN vote for your own songs in the national final rounds.
- There is no punishment for not voting in national final rounds featuring your songs.
- Please vote in as many national finals as you can, but try and listen to all songs in full if you have not heard them already (i'm looking at you FanFromHolland )
- Have fun!

can i host a later round? a semi? ill at least make a beautiful recap for the final. i just have my final assesments friday next week so i cant really host anything now. i will have a lot of time after that!

and about the second chance round, last year 5 numbers from the second chance round made it into the final! the number 5 (dont go breaking my heart), 21, 22, 24 and 30. but they all belonged there and some ended up higher than the song they originally lost to!

Review of the year my entries

Starting off in Malmo I didn't do to well in the NF stages. So I was drawn Lithuania which I was able to get it's first medal in the QF with Rūta Ščiogolevaitė. Listening to it again fresh it's not bad for Lithuania really. The second country got me to my second final ever. That was Serbia with shy the Dunja Ilic making Euphoria popular before the copycat Loreen

Staying in Sweden and off to Örebro I was handed Wales and Turkey for the second time. Lloyd Daniels handed me my only last place of the year. I think it's one of the highest scoring last places with 59 points. It was dull. Tnk was my choice for Turkey. A random song I picked that I still like.

In Barcelona we had coaches and I was not that good. Even David Guetta and Jessie J could do nothing for Morocco. It was perhaps to generic. Nor could Milan the haircut Stankovic do anything with Solo. The song I wanted to send for Serbia got to the final for Montenegro later in the year

In Warsaw I was eager to get England back as it had been my best result so far. I was allowed England and sent Wolf Gang which awarded me with my first top 10 position. I adore this song. On the third try I also got Turkey to the final with Emre Aydın These remain for me the best two songs I've sent in one contest.

Having got two to the final previously in Stavanger I got two songs into the top 10 . Albania had not qualified in 10 contests so I went for the easy option and picked Rita Ora. The song is crap but knew it would do the goods for Albania. For Finland I brought in Jannika B for the first time. I had a hard time with picking for Finland and didn't really care for this at first. It's grown on me since.

In Copenhagen perhaps I was feeling fatigue with the contest. For Armenia I picked Hripsime Hakobyan It's very drab but I like it despite the panning it got. I was shocked that Otherview & Greece got to the final I thought it was crap (not the worst in Greece for CofC though).

In Klaksvik I thought I'd have a bit of fun and scare you with Big Al's opening and Lucenzo for Portugal. I knew this wouldn't do well but wanted something cheery. For Cyprus I picked a returning artist in the form of Nikolas Metaxas. To be honest here I picked the first thing I found acceptable as I was about to move so I missed Helsinki.

Rejoining the contest in Dublin I missed the final altogether for the last time this year . For the Faroe Islands I tried out with my own epic Sax guy Michael Rune. Probably the result I was miffed with the most this year. For Israel I picked 3 minutes of sex noises just for the reaction, the act was Efrat Gosh

In Merida I just needed to get the pick I wanted. My first entry to leave the competition was Latvia my last non finalist of 2012. Picking the returning artist DJ Ella ft. Ricky J a song that lost it completely at the end of the song. My first choice was Jersey and nobody else had picked it to my surprise. Kyla La Grange had finally released the final version of Walk Through Walls a song I'd been gagging to send. I really enjoy the song and always thought it would get my first top 5. Thanks again for voting it the winner.

Taking the contest back to St.Helier I decided to mix it up with Boys vs Girls. (Boys won overall in the end ). Germany represented my girls with a two piece called Boy. I like the song but this genre was getting tired. I groaned when I drew Wales as my random knowing I'd have to find a male act. (didn't go to well earlier in the year). I plumped on Bright Light Bright Light after reading about them in the Guardian new music blog. It came from nowhere in the final to retain the crown for a second time

So my second time hosting we went to Aberystwyth. With two annoying countries I thought I'd be out early. Malta I had to search ages to get an entry I liked with Fenech-Soler I thank the Guardian blog again for mentioning the bassist was Maltese. For Romania I wanted to avoid the usual pop sluts so went for Lucia I think she can go far with the right material.

Having not won for the third time it was finally Amsterdam's turn. The random country ended up being Belarus I was not thrilled. So I sought out Princess Diana despite his poor results previously. I am ashamed to like this. For Monaco I sent my favorite song of the year sung by Woodkid. This was a risky play as it was very different for the contest. It came in second, one point behind AxG who finally won

In Beirut I went after Austria as a pick as they hadn't had a great 2012. GuGabriel delivered another top 5 result. I either find this listenable or highly irritating. For the third time in the year I got Serbia. I thought it was time to bring back Dunja to round off the year. As controversial as ever, she secured another final placement for Serbia.

Then we reached the end of the year and possibly highlighted things to come for one act. avb probably thought I was mad asking for Azerbaijan , but having redeemed my Welsh last place I thought why not the Azerbaijani last place as well. Ell's camp dancing with Aligee worked unlike Nikki's constant attempts.CHVRCHES represented Scotland finally breaking an ancient national record by one place . Maybe 2013 will bring them some success outside the contest now they are the Sound of 2013 list

Splendida Stupida is one of my favourites i've sent - was pretty overlooked i think
