Which phone should I buy?
I don't currently own a smartphone. I've used a Sony Ericsson w810i since 2006. It cost me $110 (£69) at the time via O2 and I'm with them still. I'm thinking of upgrading. These are the reasons why I've not yet bought a smartphone and stuck with my own:
The price At over £300 for either an iPhone or Galaxy S III, smartphones are not cheap. I can't justify the cost of a market leader. The size My w810i is 10cm (3.9in) tall. It fits in my pocket with room to spare. Smartphones are a lot bigger in both height and width. The weight and robustness My phone weighs 99g and although it's chunky at 19.5mm thick, if I drop my phone, it's the floor that's likely to be damaged, not my phone. The keypad Having never owned a smartphone, I don't really know what it's like to type on a screen daily but I know that I can currently text on my keypad with my eyes closed because it's so easy to do so. An on screen keyboard is not a priority for me. These are the reasons why I've stuck with my w810i until now. However, what I've found more recently is that it would be really useful to have maps on my phone, check my email on the go and be able to easily check things online. With all this in mind, I found the HP Veer which has since been discontinued. However, it shows me that there is hope for someone like me who doesn't want a huge phone. I'd really appreciate a few suggestions on what phone I could buy to replace my w810i. Please bear in mind that I'm in the UK so it must be available here. I don't care what OS it's running. Thanks! |

If you're looking for something close to the HP Veer, have a look at the Motorola Pro + (plus)
It is an android phone with a physical qwerty keyboard. It is slightly taller than your current phone but not by much. It has a touch screen above. Have a look at some youtube reviews to see if you like it. I'm pretty sure you can buy the phone for around £170 or something now. It will do everything you've mentioned. Also have look at the Nokia Asha series. One thing i'm going to say right now is don't expect excellent battery life on the phones recommend here. I do suggest looking at some touch screen only phones. They are cheaper and much better and are quite easy to use. I suggest trying out an onscreen keyboard like swiftkey or swype before ruling touch screen keyboards. |
