I clearly heard Len (when he turned to the audience) say "For Christ Sake it was NOT that funny"!!!! I do not think people were upset about the fanny remark. Quite honestly I find it all a bit childish to mention something like that on a dance show. I thought the judges were supposed to be professional with years of experienc in Ballroom/Latin etc. Does Bruno always have to make gay jokes all the time??? Making it obvious he fancies the male dancers?? Who cares?

Despite the title, this is not strictly about dancing. I have seen a few other SCD shows from other countries and where the UK version stands out for me is that we occasionally get a silly absurd situation like this. That it's funny as well as entertaining as well as classy, sometimes.

So why is everyone so upset over this word being used on television?

Children hear much worse at school, in the street etc.

Anyone who allows their child to watch people dancing in very revealing clothes surely would not have a problem with such a word?

Children can see cleavage, male trouser bulges, bare male chests, ladies underwear etc but cannot hear a word that is a female name? How bizarre !
It seems people just want something to complain about.”

Thats what I thought.
Someone mentioned it being another name for a foo foo ! Shocking.

I am old enough to remember hearing the Goon Show regularly in the 1950's. A regular trick of theirs was to utter (just the inncocent) punch line of many a barrack room joke. Spike Milligan often used to say that he got letters of complaint from old ladies in Cheltenham who clearly (but perhaps shouldn't have) knew the joke. As they say it is all in the mind. I thought Len's remark was funny, it was Bruno who overstepped the mark (If you're bothered about that sort if thing).

Len is so arrogant I can't bear him. Any time he gets boos he stops with that schoolteacher air and his reaction to Darcy interrupting him last night was pathetic.

Eh? How do you work that out? Being offended by one person even on a regular basis wouldn't stop someone watching a show. I was deeply offended watching Anne Widdicombe every week but wanted to see other good dancers so kept watching.

It would be ok him looking like that when he's just giving his opinion about what he thought of someone's performance or even the choreography, when they boo him, if he didn't get irate when the other judges say something he doesn't agree with. When he reacted like that to Darcey I though 'pot calling the kettle black' as he interrupts the other judges all the time, particularly Craig, if they say something he disagrees with.

Len's coarseness does irritate me, even more so because his experience means that he does have some very useful stuff to say, but he alienates people by his manner. It leads to the view that other judges' comments are more valid when actually it isn't the case. It would be better to have a more personable ballroom expert on the panel.

(That said, I do think Craig and Darcey talk a lot of rubbish, like they've just read a Quick Guide to Ballroom Dance.)

Len is a former East End welder (did he work in the shipyards?).

He's going to be a bit coarse from time to time - for me, that's part of his charm. He's very knowledgable about dancing, but doesn't put on any airs and graces.

I'm with those who don't find the word fanny offensive, but I guess that since the BBC have so many problems at the moment then getting Tess to apologise would lessen the chances of this becoming another one.

As for Len, he's just a bully, he thinks that he can shout down any of the other judges but then can't take it when they (or the audience) interrupt him. And sadly Bruno has just become a parody of himself, perhaps it's time to put both of them (and Brucie) out to stud.

I am surprised Len goes down well in the US on DWTS with his East London vocabulary and diction. Or does he tone it down there? Does he ever say

"You came aaaaght and gave it some welly" on DWTS?

Its all over the top Pantomime, Carry On innuendo and to view it as anything more than that is just silly.

Len is just out to make it entertaining and if it is near the knuckle sometimes it is funnier.

It is a sad world when innuendo is viewed as pervy, get over it as Len says and just enjoy.

I agree. I don't find Len crude, or Craig or anyone else crude or offensive or bringing down the tone or... I do find them funny, entertaining and caught up in the mood of the moment though.
