My nephew has asked for a laptop for Xmas to play a Farming Simulator game

The game requires the following :-

Microsoft Windows XP, Windows Vista, Windows 7 or Windows 8
2.0 GHz Intel or equivalent AMD processor
Nvidia Geforce 7600 Series, ATI Radeon X1600 graphics card or better (min 256 MB VRAM)
1 GB RAM
2 GB free hard drive space
Soundcard
DVD-ROM Drive

I really don`t want to spend alot considering he`s only going to be using the laptop for this type of game.

Can anyone recommend something reasonable ?

Really depends what your budget is...

for 140 you could get this:

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/DELL-LATIT...item3f1f1eb88f

or for 275 you could get this which is much more modern and comes with the latest Windows 8.

Or you could try your local paper's 2nd hand classifieds...

Those specs you quote are minimum specs. I had a look on a gaming forum where the thread was about Farming Simulator 2013 and the same specs were quoted there. Other posters pointed out that for the game to run properly you will need a much better graphics card with 1GB cache (VRAM) and at least a 2.4GHz quad core CPU. For gaming generally you will need 8GB DDR3 RAM for 64-bit games and 4GB DDR3 RAM for 32-bit games, a 7200rpm hard drive and a 24x DVD drive. A PC would be a better option than a laptop and you will need to up your budget by 200 at least. A different Xmas present, perhaps?

Even though this laptop has only a 5400rpm drive and a dual core CPU, it should be OK for medium level gaming. I very much doubt you'll get one new that is cheaper, and it's still 170 over your budget. Try Googling gaming laptops/gaming PCs or visit some gaming forums and you'll see what I mean about the prices. You have no chance of buying a gaming laptop for 300.
