Sorry, the umpteenth thread about this, but please contribute if you have nothing better to do! Slightly misleading title because there is no signal! The usual story - live in flat. Have aerial points in 2 bedrooms but f all when you stick the aerial cable in - not even to my super duper Panasonic blu ray recorder! Without getting someone in, have you helpful people have any steers to give me - admittedly a common problem and probably the 1,000th thread on the subject!

Sounds like it might not be connected up or the coax cable might be bad.
You might be able to unscrew this and check if its connected up?
You might also be able to get some coax cable maybe to go from one room to the other from B&Q.
But it may also need an amplifier or maybe it has one and has gone.

I think it has been a problem from the proverbial Day One - both bedrooms have never received anything in the way of a signal. I think it is a common problem when one lives in flat (he says generalising!). Ta for your response.

Might need something like this

http://www.amazon.co.uk/27820BM-Aeri...5682128&sr=8-1

But best to see what others say first.

Thanks again. I too will see what others say - if they are motivated by the thread!

Do you have an aerial point in the living room? Does it by any chance have two aerial sockets on it, one labelled Aerial and one Return? Or something like that.

It is possible that the aerial comes into the flat just on the Aerial socket in the living room. The other sockets are fed off the Return socket. This is designed so that if you have a Sky box in the living room you can plug the aerial into the RF IN of the Sky box and RF2 OUT of the Sky box to the Return socket. This feeds the aerial and the output of the Sky box to the other rooms.

It is also possible that if you do have such a set-up that all the cables from the Return socket and the bedroom points end up in a cupboard somewhere and you have to supply your own distribution system.

If you don't have a Sky box to feed the Return socket then use a two way splitter to split the aerial socket to the living room TV and the Return socket.

in my experience, this will be the scenario!

they might not even be labelled up to be honest!

just go to your main TV (assuming you have a working freeview signal there)

have a look at the aerial connection socket on the wall...... if you have more than one socket there, then chances are, one of them will be a return.

if not - then I imagine that the problem is that where your aerial socket is in your bedrooms - the cable behind it, is not actually connected to anything at the other end.

you need to work out where the cable goes, and how to connect it up to an aerial .

There is another possible scenario.

a single aerial feed could come into the flat and land in a cupboard along with the cables to the sockets to all the other rooms. A slight variation on the idea I posted earlier. In this case the idea is to install your own distribution system to all the rooms. And there would only be one aerial socket in the living room, no Return socket.

However it could be that the aerial feed has been plugged direct to the feed to the living room and there is nothing feeding the other rooms.

Yes, I have the socket and return one. The current set up is aerial socket to the back of my Panasonic recorder (RF IN). I have found in the 'bolier room' a, and I quote, 2 way bi-directional TV amplifier - with OUT1, OUT2 and input sockets with cables in it (made by Wolsey!)

OK as a test plug the lead going to the telly between the Aerial and Return sockets. If you now get signal in the bedrooms then you have solved the problem - almost.

You just have to work out how to feed the Return socket and the TV at the same time

This is where you say "is he really asking me that?"! By plugging, do you mean stick a spare aerial lead (not attached to anything) between the aerial and return sockets? Sorry!

yeah!

if you do that - you sould probably get signal on your tv in the bedroom.......... but of course you'll have no signal on living room tv then.

if thats the case you will have to get some kind of splitter / distribution amp,!

Ah OK. So I have put the spare short (4 inches) lead from the spare socket into the return socket. The results - in the spare bedroom I appear to have the ability to view all channels other than the HD ones; in the living room all channels other than Talksport (the only one I checked) and other radio stations possibly. I ill check the other bedroom tomorrow. So we have some progress - for which thanks to you!

that shouldnt really make a difference.

you are just checking to see whether the signal is there, so which device you use is irrelevant!

re the hd channels....... silly question but it is a HD enabled receiver, isn't it?

do you normally get the HD channels via your aerial? (on your main tv) ?

I am all for silly questions - I ask enough of them!

No HD on TV but yes to HD via my Panasonics (and Sky box of course).

so the channels 101 - 104 are present on your panasonic box, but the "no signal" message comes up?

is this the case with all of your aerial connection points? or just in the bedrooms?

No, I do not get that message but when I check the TV guide I get channel 85 (the Russia one) then the one it next lists is after 104 (I can't remember the channel). Just the bedroom - the living room one is fine, i.e. I can get the HD ones via my Panasonic in the living room.

Sorry, Panasonic (singular - living room only) not Panasonics.

thats OK.

you could also try temporarily repositioning the panasonic box from your front room into your bedroom - and seeing if the hd channels are available there!
