Anyone got any good films to watch which are based on true stories?

Drama/Thrillers etc.

Saving Private Ryan (the realistic WW2 scenes aside, the main plot was obviously dramatised but based on a true story)

Unstoppable is based on true events but is also IMO a good thriller.

I'm pretty sure Goodfella's is based on a book the real mobster Henry Hill wrote, but my memory might be faulty on that one. either bloody good film!!

Philadelphia - Tom Hanks
The Fugitive - Harrison Ford
127 Hours - James Franco

And yes GoodFellas if it was a true story I'm unsure though.

Black Hawk Down (LINK)

This is one of the best war films out there. The actual events were even more harrowing than what the movie depicted. If you like this film than try watching the documentary "True Story of Black Hawk Down" (LINK)

Top 10

To Die For
Nobody Knows
Election 1 & 2
The Chaser
The President's Last Bang
Vengeance is Mine
Blood Rain
Inherit the Wind
The Elephant Man
Voice of a Murderer (the story is largely fictionalised, but just before the credits, you hear a snippet of a taunting phone call from the real-life kidnapper-murderer)

I concur with The Killing Fields and Zulu. Brilliant movies.

I've heard good things about 127 HOURS. That might be worth a look at.

Hmm ones I've actually seen:
Rabbit-Proof Fence
United 93
Hachikō Monogatari
Ed Wood
Born on the 4th of July

That's one of those films where it has problems but I still liked it anyway, even though I can't explain why.

The documentary is better but the movie adaptation had a great performance from Heath Ledger.

Fire in the sky a true story?

To be taken with a very large pinch of salt, I would say.
