EE - 2 Years Ago Today. Who's Left From This Episode!
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lmyMuyxuL2s
I was just aimlessly playing around with YouTube just now and stumbled on the scene where Glenda insults everyone at Ben's Home-Coming Party. Then I realised this actually happened 2 years ago today. The interesting thing is watching now how many of the characters in that scene are no longer in EE or should no longer be in EE as their stories have dried up and the writers aren't making an effort with them - Shirley anyone? My favourite bit is when Heather asks her to stop and Glenda replies "where would I start." For me that was the most natural bit of the whole scene where the rest was a little clumsily put together and seemed a bit staged. However it is all still very funny? Who wrote it? It is hard to believe that just a year later EE was totally a different show and going by the spoilers I read now, I can't believe I even watched EE between Feb 2010-April 2012 and I like the odd classic clips online. Yes, I agree. The only thing she'd have been woth having for, IMO, would've been the fallout from the Baby Swap. After all the crap between her, Ronnie and Roxy it would've been a little interesting. But they even managed to bugger that up!
I had high hopes for Glynis, but I think she thought she was acting on Dallas, not Eastenders. |

Nina Wadia has sadly made the right decision. There was no coming back from Zainab after 2011 without a huge break. In fact the only thing thaat would of made this scene better is if Zainab was in it. |

The fact was Glenda would not sympathise with Ronnie, she'd just use it as an excuse to jump in bed with Jack.

You're right I guess. In a way her departure spared us witnessing Jack being caught red-handed with another blonde Mitchell.

Well she is such a forgetable character, sadly every time I see Phil Mitchell I always remember how he got it on with his own auntie.
'Its a bit sick isn't it, I mean she's your auntie isn't she? Its like me getting it on with Auntie Pauline.' *vomit smilie* Didn't help Phil kept calling her Auntie Glenda either |

![]() Glynis Barber was amazing- bring back Glenda Mitchell! She offered comedy, she offered drama, she was a bitch yet vulnerable. What came first the victim or the bitch? She was great with Carol and bounced off of some of the other female cast. Quote:

That was truly horrendous - 'Aunty Glenda' was just eww
I think Glenda was an intriguing character who had lots of potential to explore her background. For example yes she left her kids but we found out in dribs and drabs that she had tried to kill herself just before leaving them, she was terrified that her husband was going to kill her when she discovered she was pregnant with another man's child and there were various other bits that came out that showed that Glenda wasn't a black and white character and more could of been done with her. She offered comedy, she offered drama, she was a bitch yet vulnerable. What came first the victim or the bitch? She was great with Carol and bounced off of some of the other female cast. I will concede however that I don't think Glynis Barber at times gave her best, particularly the longer she was in the show. You got the feeling that she wasn't enjoying the Phil storyline anymore than the rest of us. |

However on this date 2 years ago as this episode aired, the baby-swap hadn't aired and they already would of known (even if us audience didn't) that Glynis was leaving. Quote:
The fact was Glenda would not sympathise with Ronnie,
Yes, Glenda went about it all wrong, and that was part of the tragedy with her, however the truth was she loved her children and this was pointed out various times during her year on the show. On at least 2 separate occasions she tried to do what was right by them in the end. Even in her last episode the writers conveyed that she did genuinely love her children. The whole point was Glenda's punishment for her affairs by the EE gods was to be punished by losing her daugthers, the only thing she truly did care about besides herself. To add salt into the wounds she lost her daughters for the wrong reasons. She didn't steal Roxy's money and she had been trying to help Ronnie in the episodes leading up to her exit. But Ronnie so desperate to protect her own evil deed and fearful her mother knew the truth plotted to get rid of her mother by turning to Phil to help (like she later did over Michael). That's when Shirley heard everything and the rest is history. Realising Ronnie had betrayed her and that Roxy would never believe her, Glenda knew she had to leave Walford then (having resisted for a few episodes) as the 2 people she truly loved hated her! The thing was the Mitchells could have done with an older character who had a bit of warmth and it's a shame that they didn't go down that angle with Glenda.

Glenda was a strange character, they originally cast a 70+ woman in the role but she dropped out after filming a few episodes so they recast her with Glynis Barber (who was 20 years younger than her predecessor). It was then revealed she had a teenage son and she had affairs with both Phil and Ian. I wonder what storylines they would have done had she been played by the other actress surely they wouldnt have been the same.
