Do you have New Years dinner and what do you have? Tradition in Scotland is steak pie, I,ve not bothered with NY meal for years, we,re always up late after the bells and I usually make a buffet so the bellys a bit delicate on the 1st, I,m usually alone from the afternoon so I eat what I fancy and catch up with tv

Beef in beer with a hunk of puff pastry on the side - so pretty close to steak pie. Mash.

We either have takeaway or buffet style picky bits (the same as boxing day)

We have a leg of lamb, with the same veg etc that we had on our Christmas dinner

Steak pie, tinned potatoes, butter beans and gravy. Nice and easy if we happen to be feeling delicate. I'll only be making a few sandwiches for the bells.

I remember a few families when I was younger used to make a full dinner for right after the bells, when visitors would be arriving, couldn't imagine a sit down dinner at that hour!

We have either pork or gammon with all the trimmings about 4pm. It's that time because I spend the morning recovering from NYE.

My mother would always cook cabbage rolls, which I believe was a recipe from her grandfather, who was from Czechoslovakia.I always took the cabbage off but they were still beautiful, especially with mashed potatoes.

I did Google some cabbage roll recipes a few years ago but I haven't had the courage to attempt them as yet.I just find the very thought of cooking from scratch really intimidating.

I believe that they are fairly common in Eastern European countries. If you're headed that way for a holiday,it's worth giving them a try.

Always a boiled gammon with parsley sauce on New Years' day, in our house.
