Lola's Mum - Do We Need To Meet Her?
little-monster

I have always been curious about the lack of mentioning Lola's mum. We know Lola was in care and her dad died, but there never seems to any mention of what happen to Lola's mum

Anyone think they should follow this up?

I remember last year when several people thought Mandy was her mum but obviously she wasn't.

Actually I still think the plan was for Mandy to be Lolas mum, it all seemed far too coincidental but I get the impression that they changed their minds. I could be wrong tho (first time for everything).

The thing that concerns me about Lolas mum is that if she abandoned her daughter she is probably some fruitlooping, alcohol swilling whore and we've got enough of them at present.

Its all a bit of a retread if they bring in her mum, the cora/lola connection would be even stronger though so it'll almost certainly happen next year. Lola not sure if she should give her mum a chance, Cora telling her she should, then Whitney can come along and join in on the mum being absent/crap thing, as can Shirley and all the other characters who all have the same dysfunctional relationships....snooze...

We really dont need another screwed up mother/daughter relationship. Maybe if they want to show that Lola's mum went on to make a success of her life after giving Lola up that would be interesting, would be nice to have a different take - sometimes it really is for the best (wonder if Ava will have some sinister secret and wish she hadnt been given up for adoption...)

I don't think they should.

It has been established that Lola's mum is not going to win any prizes for her parenting, or Lola would not be in care. We have seen the same thing with Whitney, her mother was the strereotypical bad mum, I thought she was addicted to probably somehting worse than booze, and was selling ehrself to get it, or at the very least didn't get the meas to that end in any legal way. She clearly didn't give a toss about ehr daughter. I fully expect Lola's mum to be the same. Been there, seen that.

Also, Lola works just fine with Billy for a dad and Cora for a mum, or that is what it comes down to, she doesn't need anyone else.

Maybe in a few years, should Lol get separated from Billy or Cora and her friends somehow, or something else comes up, like a disease that may run in the family and she wants to go and ask her mother about it.

Personally, I think the only way to make it work, should her mother ever come in it, is to give her some sort of mental disorder, maybe schizophrenia or borderline or something. That way, it could be explained why she couldn't look after Lola, especially if she wasn't diagnosed yet, or only just and gradually got better over time. Just like Jean is a nice person, but she isn't always capable of looking after a child. Lola, being very young now, would have had even more trouble understandign her mum's behaviour back then, nor why it may have been for the best to get her out of that house, especially if nobody knew the source of it, and/or nobody told Lola, as she was just a kid who wouldn;t understand anyway. Then they could rebuild there relationship when mummy dearest gets back..

The only problem with that plan is that it is at a high risk of becoming Stacey and Jean 2.0, especially since Lola is a little similar to young Stacey, at least when she first arrived.

I agree i'm sure they planned to make Lola Mandy's daughter. It would explain the lack of mentions of Lola's mum. Also in Mandy's very first episode back in Albert Square the first person she interacted with (other than Ian) was Lola in a very contrived scene which featured Lola going to Ian's house to speak about working in the Chippy - a job she'd only just acquired a few days before and lost a few days after. She clashed with Mandy and they argued, it seemed to be too contrived and too much of a coincidence.

The cancellation of that would explain the very poor material Mandy did receive and the strange non-story about her having Ricky's baby that died at birth.

Picturing an older, more annoying version of Lola, if that's even possible.

Suddenly realised I don't care about seeing Lola's mum.

BIB - I agree that would be interesting, maybe her mum was young when she had Lola and left her with Dan and then went on to make something of herself, perhaps going to uni. She could even have done law and could help Lola try to win Lexi back

I think it's a given that they will bring her in but we know NOTHING about her as far as i know!

An example in ED Amy (Who i think as a blueprint is a pretty similar character to Lola) we got little snippets through her time about what her mam was like so we were sort of prepared for her arrival!

But with Lola's mam we know nothing i cant remember her even mentioning her at all if she even knows her mam at all what her past with her was like! Those details we got regarding Amy and her mam in ED so again we knew how she was going to react when she saw her again!

Lola needs to start talking about her mam way in advance it just wouldn't work if she turned up out of the blue without barely a mention! But i would like to see her turn up it would help Lola who imo is on her way to becoming an amazing character!

Agreed. Giving Mandy more to do, imagine if Ian had married Mandy only to discover Lola of all people was his daughter in law. Would have been comedy gold.

When Lola got locked in her bedroom with Shirley she told her that her mum run out on her when she was 3. That's all we've ever really heard about her mum. Don't think I would like it if her mum came into it, think somehow it might jeopardize/cause problems between Lola and Billy, which I definitely would not like because I love their relationship

I thought Lola's mum was going to turn out to be Ava, but that nail has been knocked on the head.
