I'm going to give this a try as well, but i'm kind of wondering how it's any different from the mentalist ?

(Obviously I know it's very different as a whole..)

Red John has 'followers' as well, so it does seem that they've nicked the idea to an extent. I'm quite prepared to be surprised though.

Every serial killer featured in every US crime drama has turned out to have a follower at some point so it's not as if The Mentalist first thought of the idea

Only concern is the numerous breaks it'll have, as so close to the US, which ruin the tension and flow of a series.

If there are any breaks at all they certainly won't be "numerous." The networks' late September to late May "season" is already half over and The Following has 15 episodes to get through. From January 21, when the show starts, there are only 18 Mondays remaining in the season.

This does look interesting but I do fear these concept shows. They have an interesting premise but once they start to get going they have no idea where to take the interesting premise. Flash Forward, The Event, Awake, Last Resort all had interesting premises but didn't know how to take them forward.
I hope this show has some direction and some good characters.

Plus it's on FOX, so does this have a chance of a second season? It could be cancelled before the first ad break on Monday night.

I thought The Following was only ten episodes and the Fox boss wanted it to run unbroken like a cable show.

15 episodes is what I have read in a few different places over time.

It's Kevin Williamson that should be interest enough, it apparently is quite violent but of course not to cable standards.
