As Doug Carter, what a lamo, asking somone to marry you, go to America with you, then finally telling them to go and then saying if it doesn't work out I'l get back with you????

WHAT A LOSER!

Agree all he does is moan practically dragging Ste to Brendan no matter how many times Ste told him he wants him Doug always threw Brendan at him like he wanted them to be together! I hope he doesn't come back either!

I think he returns, and so does his dull as dish water friend Texas. I use to like Doug but I think HO have ruined his character, but I'm glad Stug over and maybe we can get the old Doug back.

I haven't seen the episode. But he's said that?? Omg! I agree that is serious low self esteem. I never believed Doug and Ste as a couple, not like Brendan and Ste.

Oh I see - Stendan's army. What a cheap shot, thinking because he is off-screen you can trick the producer into keeping him away. Doug is the best.

Does anyone remember Doug at the beginning? I hated him! He was only in it for a week and was dealing drugs.

Then he returned and everything with Bex made me love him. I don't like his partnership with Ste - the storyline seems very forced.

Oh so us with low self-esteem are Losers?? Thanks for that. That will do wonders for my confidence.

He is just a massive wet blanket. I used to like him when he actually had a pair of bollocks but since he was hugged gay he has been nothing but a sniveling whingey big girls blouse.
I hope he has gone for good!

Yes I remember drug dealing Doug, thats why it was all hypocritical with trying to send Brendan down. The Bex thing made me like him I even liked Stug at the beginning but Doug got all moany and annoying and I'm glad its over. Stug for me ruined the whole Bex thing and the back story behing Doug sexuality was not believable since when he was introduced he was a proper into girls.

I won't deny it because you sound more of a bloke than I.

Like has been said many times. People don't get hugged gay, as Hollyoaks have clearly shown with a full on relationship for Ste & Doug.

Doug's ruined and I hope he doesn't come back. He was ruined the moment they turned him gay.

I must admit, I only got back into Hollyoaks just before the Stug relationship began, so I know very little of his character pre-Deli.

But in that short time, it does seem they made him very insecure, jealous and at times quite cold. Everything opposite to the reasons Ste fell for him.

Recently, I thought they brought him back round, 'Daddy Doug' is heart-meltingly cute, and I would have given anything to see more interaction with the kiddies.

I'm just sad they played Doug's loving and trusting side straight into the hands of the Stendan SL, seemed a bit of a cop-out after he fought so hard for that relationship and it was such a milestone in his life.

The whole thing was ridiculous. People arnt saying people cant fall in love with some of the same sex when they thought they were straight but it was literally after a hug he decided he was gay. If the storyline was done better and not just a plot device to creat stendan drama people would of believed it more and dougs character wouldnt of been completely ruined.

I dont really care if you find anything ive said offensive, man up

Doug has always been insecure. He tried to kill himself twice before the whole Ste storyline started.

They had a couple of hugs and shared scenes etc while Doug was realising his feelings though. People just seem to want to remember the one main hug and label it as the turning point. They had been getting close for a while.

You clearly have an issue with men not fitting the macho poster boy.

I think Doug's coming back. Not totally 100% though.

I think it would be a good storyline for Hollyoaks to look at Dougs low self esteem. Maybe do a storyline were he struggles to boost his self esteem.

Or perhaps give him an eating disorder. I think eating disorders are linked to low self esteem. I actually prefer the eating disorder storyline than the boosting self esteem. It would be different than Hannah Ashworth as well as he's male. It's maybe slightly more taboo and not as common as female eating disorders. Or maybe not diagnosed as much.

I agree with everything you've said.

We invest in these characters and half the time, they just completely re-write their past for the sake of a story (in this case, as you've said, for more Ste/Brendan drama). For this reason, I have no time for Doug anymore. If they want to keep choppin' and changin' his character, so be it - but don't expect the viewers to give a shit about it.

Could be good.Neighbours did it with Ringo but don't think a UK soap has done it yet

some people on this forum seem to have a problem with men showing emotion, Doug gets called a 'crybaby' constantly, heaven forbid he could be upset that his two best friends have both been murdered and that his father has Parkinsons. We already knew that Doug had low self-esteem, he tried to kill himself a year ago, it's always been part of his character, next you'll be surprised that Brendan is a downright awful person

why is it Doug who always gets the blame, Ste could have easily said that it was too early to get married and he would have been totally right, Ste is the one who got married when he loves someone else, it was an incredibly unfair thing to do to everyone involved

They were both in the wrong. Ste should never have married Doug, since he may be fond of him, but he is not madly in love with him. Doug should never have married Ste, because he knows that, while Ste may care for him, he is not The One. Even if Ste believed he couldn't be with Brendan, he still shouldn't be with Doug.

Was he even upset with lyndsey or riley dying though? Since he was hugged gay we barely seen him have a scene with anyone other than ste. The character completely changed for the worst and we had to put up with crap like the fake wedding. Its already been said but they basically threw the character under a bus to create stendan drama. Instead of bringing someone new in - like noah - who was universally despised they chose doug as he was a popular character but it has backfired imo and i really hope he has gone for good or if he does comes back is a bit more like the doug we knew before

Doug's always irritated me. Since before the big turn-around in character and even more afterwards.
But I actually felt really sorry him last night. Actually found it almost cruel of the writers to make the character so pathetic.

Honestly, before I opened this thread, I assumed it was about Ste because anyone who would willingly run back to his abuser must hate himself and suffer from low self esteem.

But Doug fits and I hate he told Ste that. Ste told him in his coldly indifferent treatment of him for months that he prefers Brendan. No way should he be waiting for Ste or get back with Ste once Brendan is gone.

I hope to see Doug back, stronger and done with Ste for good. He needs to move on.
