I think the main problem with Doug is the actor. When called on to show emotion he has only one setting - lots and lots of tears (plus shaky voice). He's very limited and that affects how people perceive the character.

I've only seen the trailer for tonights ep but I didn't expect Dough to suddenly bow down to Brendan, what was the point in that? And the flight to Dublin was conveniently leaving around the same time as the flight to America. I thought it would be good for Ste to go somewhere new and enjoy life instead of being a misery guts and always worrying.

I hated doug at the beginning he seemed really fake, I hardly remember him on screen with Bex, only once she got murdered and him getting through that. He's always been a bit of a wet blanket but I think he plays the family man well, which is why I'm disappointed in his choice to let Ste go.

I hope to see Doug back, stronger and done with Ste for good. He needs to move on.”

BIB - I agree. Nor should Ste get back with Doug. It will happen, though. Still, I don't imagine I will be watching by then. Doug would be best to get on with his new life in the US, and spend time with his father as he seemed desperately keen to do. He won't, though.

I used to love Doug but since 'becoming gay' he became all sappy and whiney and constantly miserable. Bring back the old Doug and hook him up with Tex!

there was a scene of Doug crying alone in the deli, that was really badly dealt with, and then he went to America for Riley's memorial and there was the football game they had when Ste was depressed about his social life, and just the other week Doug shouted at Mercedes after that shambles of a court case

what I'd agree with is that the characters are too isolated, they operate in little bubbles a lot. Most of Doug's friends are gone and Ste only has Cheryl. They need a proper friendship group in Hollyoaks now, we don't see the students anymore and we don't have the Darren/Rhys friendship, the lads' night out stuff earlier this year was promising

“Doug has always been insecure. He tried to kill himself twice before the whole Ste storyline started.”

When was the second time he tried to kill himself?
I remember when he jumped into the river, but when was the other time?

“Oh so us with low self-esteem are Losers?? Thanks for that. That will do wonders for my confidence.”

sorry, didn't mean to upset
just wish Doug would get some self respect, move on, and find somone decent.

“Was he even upset with lyndsey or riley dying though? Since he was hugged gay we barely seen him have a scene with anyone other than ste. The character completely changed for the worst and we had to put up with crap like the fake wedding. Its already been said but they basically threw the character under a bus to create stendan drama. Instead of bringing someone new in - like noah - who was universally despised they chose doug as he was a popular character but it has backfired imo and i really hope he has gone for good or if he does comes back is a bit more like the doug we knew before”

This is exactly it, since he became gay he's had no other interests besides Ste, we barely even see him with Texas anymore apart from when the story requires it. When Riley was killed he seemed more angry that Ste wasn't comforting him enough, and was comforting Brendan more When he found out Silas wasn't standing trail and Riley bought up Bex, Dougs response was pretty much"meh oh well I'm gay now Riley"
Doug always used to be a caring person and would look after people and help them as much as he could, Lynsey, Riley, Ruby, Seth in HO later. compare that to how he is now.

“won't deny it because you sound more of a bloke than I.

Like has been said many times. People don't get hugged gay, as Hollyoaks have clearly shown with a full on relationship for Ste & Doug.”

BIB like it or not THAT EXACTLY WHAT HAPPENED:sleep:

The time he jumped into the river was the second time.

He took an overdose after his friend got hurt whilst on drugs that he sold to her.

Surely that was addressed when his parents visited. He was always the underdog to his sibling. Suffice to bring about any insecurites and lack of self esteem, if your parents show no regard for you and favour your sibling.

It was heartbreaking last night to see Doug making 'the right choice' Even the Stendan fans, whilst pleased that Stug is over. appear to have had their heart strings pulled.

I disagree. PJ played a blinder last night. The writers have decided he will be this needy, whiny, confused guy trying to come to terms with the fact that the man he loves, loves someone else more. I applaud PJ and his acting abilities as exactly how he has been written.
