Just put a 3d video through our new Sony, its the first time I have used the 3d option.

When I put the glasses on apart from then seeing the picture in 3d, it is a lot darker to the eye than looking without the specs. is this normal.

Yes 3d = less resolution & less brightness , its not faulty but you will be able to adjust the bri , contrast & colour to improve it a bit .

Yes, make sure you put backlight and brightness to the max and turn off the light sensor which messes up the picture big time. I did these for my KDL-32EX650 and it really makes a difference.

Utterly stupid 'feature', as it has been on every set it's appeared on back to the 1950's - WHY do they keep reviving it?.

It's something else to turn off on every set you install, along with the stupid ECO settings.

I guess they just want to show off with useless Eco-friendly features all companies want to be 'green' these days.

Apparently it's an EU requirement that TV's must switch off after a certain length of time (4 hours maximum usually) - luckily on most sets you can still disable this stupid 'feature' - but on some you can't.

If you ever wonder when you go in a TV shop about dinner time why some of the sets aren't running - that's why!

Thanks for all the info.

Is it the case then that all 3d tv give a darker less resolution pic. on 3d or is it only active types or just Sony.

I watched Mr Stink last night in 3d on BBChd I was not blown away, I did not purchase the set because I required 3d but as its there I thought I would give it a try.

I think it's the passive 3d sets which lose resolution as half the lines go to each alternate eye. The active ones are supposed to sync to the shutters so they're supposed to be full res.

How's the set on the whole btw? I'm considering the 46 inch version but I've just had my tv repaired so there's still a bit life in it still.

Edit: Found this which might explain things a bit better.
