That stat is misleading because ITV offer up five and a half hours of soaps and BBC1's primetime staples are from a number of genres. I can't imagine many people watching all the regular weekly shows on BBC1 but I can imagine many people watching at least one of them. Whereas if you don't like soaps on ITV, you're screwed.
It's possible for people to like Casualty and not like Holby (my mum is one of them) and Casualty at least is often dropped for special occasions, it's just taken off the whole of Christmas. Countryfile has often been shown as early at 5.30 so its effect on the primetime schedules is minimal - especially in the winter when audiences are at their highest - and Antiques Roadshow isn't on every week either. I know it looks like it. In addition the last two weeks have seen the first lottery quizzes for three months, between October and December it was simply ten minutes for the draw.
The One Show offers up a wide mix of features, it's the same as This Morning and Loose Women on ITV - and the Beeb offer far more flexibility and innovation in daytime. And furthermore, ITV show virtually no new programmes after 10,30 whereas BBC1 do constantly.
