Both well below the slot average. If they fall from here I could see them being buried in a later timeslot for the remaining episodes.

Good memory Jake. That's how it went. I enjoyed it when it started then they killed it by doing too many editions. Also think it lost something when Schofield stopped presenting it with Anne Robinson.

Top Gear has been confirmed for the 27th at 9pm, could hurt Ripper Street.”

But it will also hurt Selfridges, whilst steering clear of Midwife!

This is a bold scheduling move by the Beeb, and will cause panic at ITV Towers.

Does look like Ripper St has been written off!

So is Midwife back then on the 27th, at 8?

DS have misquoted the official Top Gear website, who say it will be shown at 8pm as usual: http://www.topgear.com/uk/photos/Top...ack-2013-01-03

Very odd I think if it had been ready in autumn BBC1 could have showed Paradise against it on the 8 o clock slot, catering different audiences and providing 2 great alternatives to XFactor.

Channel 5 have commissioned a new documentary series fronted by Ben Fogle from Renegade/Group M:
Quote:
“Channel 5 and Ben Fogle go to Where The Wild Men Are

In this brand new Channel 5 series, adventurer Ben Fogle lives with people who have chosen to inhabit some of the most remote locations on earth and turn their backs on the daily grind. Where The Wild Men Are with Ben Fogle (4 x 60) will air in spring 2013.

But who exactly are the people who have the guts to make such a dramatic move? What are the challenges that face them? And what is it that led them to leave behind what most of us would deem "ordinary life"?

Ben will visit the following places and live with the people who have ventured there:

Alaska, USA
30 something couple Bretwood Higman and wife Erin McKittrick moved to one of the remotest parts of Alaska 4 years ago, and have raised two young children in the wilderness. They hiked 4,000 miles to get to their new home and now live half the year in a self-built Mongolian-style yurt - and the other half trekking in the wilderness - accompanied by their infant children. The family chop their own wood for fuel, water comes from an underground well and their dog licks their plates clean. Ben learns vital survival skills to live in the wild -, grizzly bear protection, storm navigation and paddling tiny rafts through freezing waters to reach a stunning glacier.

Restoration Island, Australia
Former Sydney businessman, Dave Glasheen (69) lost $10million in a single day in the stock market crash of 1987. He and his wife separated and his home was repossessed. With his last savings, Dave bought the lease on part of Restoration Island - and it's here he's learned to live like a voluntary castaway. This real-life Robinson Crusoe and his sole companion, dog Quasi, inhabit a 100 acre volcanic island. It's a 40 minute boat-ride away from Lockhart River - the most remote indigenous Aboriginal population in Australia. Ben learns to oyster pick, brew beer, trade fish and dance with the locals in one of the world's last remaining genuine wilderness areas. We discover a man who lost everything once, but is set to lose it again - Dave is being evicted from his island home and is doing everything he can to stay...

Gorge River, New Zealand
Deep in the New Zealand wilderness lives a family in a place so remote it takes two days on foot to reach it. The Long family are hunter-gatherers who survive off the land and call a ramshackle wooden hut their home. Robert Long discovered the untamed area after dropping out of medical school 32 years ago. He and his wife Catherine have raised two teenagers in complete isolation, educating them at home and teaching them how to live off the land and sea that surrounds them. Ben immerses himself into the Long family's world, hunting with them, killing pests with them and gaining an insight into a way of life that makes him question his own lifestyle back in so called civilization.

Texas, USA
Former New York fashion photographer John Wells (53) ago quit NYC four years ago for a life off the grid in one of the most inhospitable terrains on earth. Hunting deadly rattlesnakes and decapitating dead cows to sell their horns are just some of the delights that now make up his day job, as is fitting in with the eccentric desert folk and doomsday preppers that inhabit the neighbouring Ghost Town. Ben joins John (and his pet rooster Carl) in their humble abode - a small hut made of scrap metal, complete with an outdoor bathroom that doesn't leave much to the imagination. A far cry from John's former mansion in New York state.”

ITV should be begging him to do more though, even if they don't film them until next year (they could film them in the first half of next year and air them in the Autumn as they won't have Doc Martin next year). It did very well indeed last night and seemed to knock a fair chunk out of the comedies (Miranda in particular).”

They can't really film it any time apart from the summer as they wouldn't be able to get the access to the colleges & university buildings that they have at the moment during term time or in the Easter vacation.

Thanks, thought they would do slightly better than that. Not sure how much they were advertised, don't watch much ITV2, but they must be disappointing with them. They've still one or two US comedies to show haven't they? Animal Practice, I think, if those two which were at least ok couldn't do well then I don't hold much hope for that.

That makes more sense, it didn't seem to harm Call the Midwife too much last year, and it would hurt Ripper Street far more.

Robbie's fast paced postings straight after the ratings get released are getting more and more desperate by the day

Robbie seems to think ITV only air anything so they can dent BBC1. Airing drama on Mondays in January isn't exactly unusual. More usual than airing comedy to be fair!

People's calendars aren't 'to pot', everyone knows it was Monday yesterday.

I assume they didn't see the trailers, use the EPG, read Radio Times etc etc.

Could BBC1 now be rueing the Monday night slot??”

Basically reading too much into the lead-in, and indirectly saying that Miranda is rubbish and the only way to get bums on sets to watch it is to ensure bums are already on seats by the previous programme.

On one hand complaining that Lewis is too high because it got a Corrie lead in, but Miranda is too low, because it didn't get an EastEnders lead in.

Far too much is read into lead-ins, especially when we are talking about long running well known shows.

First Corrie yesterday peaked with 10.06m (41.6%), and the second peaked with 9.74m (37.3%) but the breakdown for the second remained pretty stable.

Either that or maybe there was more competition after 3pm, by the FA Cup, people having their Sunday dinners etc.

The Childrens' Ward episodes were completely unrememberable though. Throughout it's entire run it was a case of 'spot the child actor who would later be a big star in Corrie or Emmerdale'. All except the last series, which these episodes were from, which featured nobody that went on to do anything in adult TV.

CBBC ratings.

16:30 - Jedward's Big Adventure: 315k (2.5%)
17:15 - M.I High: 331k (1.9%)
18:15 - Fit: 226k (1.1%).

Expectedly, CITV fell back to normal, peaked with 229k (1.5%) at 17:15.

New Year Live averaged 9.74m (48.8%) officially and peaked with 14.21m (66.3%). Would be higher including BBC Scotland viewers.

Does anyone know what Fake Reaction got last thursday on ITV2? Seeing as it aired in Celebrity Juice's normal time slot i assumed it'd at least start off resonably well, but with it's rating not being reported i assume that it's rating was pretty unspectacular?

Even though Lewis did dent them, the comedies did very well, I'm more impressed with the retention between Miranda and Mrs Brown's Boys, this pairing has proved to be a strong one and I reckon they'll try and get both back for Christmas specials.

I think Lewis could come back but maybe not a yearly basis, Kevin's done the role on and off for 25 years and I wouldn't be surprised if he wants to cut back. I think ITV probably think Lewis was ending soon so have a ready made replacement in Endeavor. I would love to see a crossover episode where a murders starts in Endeavor and solved in Lewis.

I remember Si and Davey pretty well. Not sure getting the eps with Jane Danson or Vicky Binns would've done that much better - the CITV viewers had dwindled to five figures by 1530.

Where the Wild Men Are sounds interesting and Ben Fogle is a good hire, it does fit with other C5 shows like Extreme Railways and Ice Road Truckers etc 5 seems to have found a niche with adventure factual and obdocs around the services in the way Channel 4 found success with OBEM, 24 Hours in A&E, The Hotel and 999: What Your Emergency.

I wonder if Extreme Railways will be recommissioned, it did well enough for both original airing and repeats.

The breakdown is interesting, Miranda has a younger audience while Mrs Brown has a slightly older audience.

Along the same lines, I'm disappointed that Charley Boorman's new show which starts tomorrow night has not been promoted at all by the channel. Is it a real stinker or something? I know the first series didn't rate as well as it probably should have done, but it was in a tough slot. It's not as though they have a lot of new stuff starting at the same time either, it's pretty quiet this week. The trailer for American Idol meanwhile is on two or three times an hour and it doesn't even start for another week!
