It can't go on like that, that is the problem. I don't think 4od would impact C4's viewing figures greatly, in the same way that the iPlayer doesn't affect the BBC greatly. Channel 4 just have aging programmes that need to be sorted out quicker rather than later. If you want to watch a certain show, you'll watch it in its given timeslot.
