Yes, it looks like it did quite well. They'll be happy with that.

I do as well, ridiculous but also funny!

What's the betting the show might have had a telling off in the BBC management meeting on Monday?

A reasonable rating for Eastenders. Higher than recent Friday episodes have been getting. Would have been nice to see it stay above 8m though.

Not sure I understand - isn't R1 a BBC channel?

Breakfast was watched by 1.48 million people yesterday morning, Daybreak by 700,000 according to BARB.

When shows change channel from BBC2 to BBC1 it's sometimes best to keep them on the same day and time if possible as viewers are us to seeing it there. Saturday night would be an awful slot for it.

It's a dreadful show as modern comedians don't have any warmth and leave people cold. It'll never appeal to the masses unlike Michael McIntyre's Comedy Roadshow where the public generally like the host so watch for him.

Bear in mind that this includes the repeat showing though.

Given that the aggregated average was about 300k up on the actual average, it probably wasn't massively ahead of HIGNFY, for example - say c5.2m to 4.9m.

BTW, how do aggregated % shares work? Surely you can't just say, for example, it had 20% on ITV1 and 2% for the repeat on ITV1+1, so it therefore had a 22% share of viewing? That's just plain nonsense.

Wouldn't you take an average if you are going to treat two separate showings on two separate channels as one - so around 11%?

Who was hoping for a flop? All I saw was a large number of blatant under-predictions, so that if it ended up with 4.5-5m viewers, they could then hail it as a massive success....

I think 'watched' is the wrong word to use when talking about breakfast TV ratings. Millions more than the average slot rating actually 'watched'.

That's pretty good for Text Santa, peak healthy aswell.

Here are the kids ratings:

CBBC/CBeebies on BBC One:
15:35 - The Cow That Almost Missed Christmas: 253k (2.7%)
16:00 - Blue Peter Christmas Special: 263k (2.4%)
16:30 - CBeebies Christmas Panto: 601k (4.5%)

CITV:
16:00 - Text Santa: CITV Special: 82k (0.73%)

CBBC:
15:00 - Flushed Away: 376k (3.9%)
16:30 - Horrible Histories: 222k (1.7%)
17:00 - Dani's House: 285k (1.9%)
17:30 - 12 Again: 188k (1.1%)
18:00 - Friday Download: 183k (0.9%)

CBeebies:
16:10 - Gigglebiz: 295k (2.7%)
16:30 - CBeebies Christmas Panto: 610k (4.5%)
17:15 - Mike the Knight: 658k (4.2%)
17:25 - Tree Fu Tom: 669k (4.0%)
17:45 - Driver Dan's Story Train: 537k (3.0%)

I guess CBeebies won the night then, as far as the kids channels go.

That's a total of 1.21m (9.0%) for the Panto. On BBC One, only 87k (14.1%) 4-15's were watching, compared to 161k (26.8%) over 65's.

On CBeebies, 287k (15.03%) of 4-15s were watching, and 179k (28%) of 4-6s were watching.

It was so obvious Text Santa would do well. Theres be a hell of alot of promotion and not just by ITV.EastEnders performed better than i thought given last night when i popped to the supermarket was like a Saturday afternoon. Highiest Friday ep for a whille. BBC3 figure is strong too. had text Santa not been on at 8 Chances EastEnders would have been above 8million. Wonder what the last Friday omnibus did at 00:15?

Yes, this was also the last omnibus on BBC One. From now on It moves to BBC Two, Sunday mornings (around 11:30-12:30). It's a smaller channel but better time so it might help to improve the weak ratings.

The Bake Off is in no shape or form a Saturday night reality show - it's not even a BBC1 show really even though it'll probably end up there.

Another awful night for C4, and deservedly so.

The Friday before Xmas, and their 9pm offering is 'The Hoarder Next Door'. Unbelievable.

- I hate using this icon but...

So what? Do people who watch Breakfast not watch other channels? Should the movie review be axed? Should Football Focus deny all knowledge of the Champions League?

Nearly as stupid as those posts by others about Text Santa only raising a 'few million quid'

I am glad that Text Santa got a good rating. It did deserve it. So, I guess it will be back again next year.
Eastenders didn't do too bad against it but you would still expect a larger audience to be interested in the aftermath show especially so near to Christmas. I think Downton Abbey could be the big winner on Christmas day although it could well yet be the Midwives due to the promotion that it is receiving.

Decent rating for Text Santa. It'll be back next year on the basis of that I should've thought. Better scheduling and promotion this year plus a generally better show helped (not to mention it being a generally quiet night across the board).

As for the post expressing disgust at Breakfast promoting Corrie? People have far too much time on their hands if that's all it takes to make one outraged...

Interesting that the peak 15 minutes of Text Santa was the period when Philip Schofield put on Holly Willoughby's dress and stilettos. Now we know how to increase the This Morning ratings after New Year.

Seriously it deserved the ratings as it was exactly what a telethon should be like but the BBC seem to have got lazy and forgotten how to do them well in recent years.

Hopefully, Text Santa will make CIN up their game in 2013.

As for BBC breakfast plugging Corrie. It may well have had something to do with it being Christmas, travel being impossible due to the weather and it was just easier to get guests from next door (indeed Corrie will be literally just over the canal from the BBC in 2013/4 when the new set is complete and Granada move from Quay Street).

It is not unusual for Breakfast to use local guests on many subjects for similar reasons. Travel from other parts of the UK for early morning/ or overnight stays are costly. But there is no anti BBC bias. They cover ITV shows - as they should - but not remotely to the extent it appears excessive or even more than ITV cover BBC shows on This Morning.

If you're putting a bet on make sure you do overnights rather than the officials.

I put a bet on Call the Midwife to top the day then realised paying out on BARB figures a week later...therefore stuffed as Downton will add more viewers I think timeshifting.

Awful - the last Friday before Christmas always used to be fairly strong for C4 (despite it being the so called "Mad Friday"), but then again so did every Friday until the last couple of years.

itv does enough of its own crass promotion without the BBC helping it out.

I am not a stupid person and I do have a life. I was expressing an opinion. Don't patronise me. I bet I would have got a different reaction if I was complaining about an itv show promoting something on the BBC (very, very rare), seeing how this forum is over populated by itv fans.

Channel 4 is a joke and they'll be left wanting in January as they ditched CBB and then ditched their biggest success in the early months of the year, Big Fat Gyspy Weddings. Maybe they'll be showing more DOND and CDWM to compensate.
