Any chance of giving Xmas speculation a rest until November at the earliest?

Northumberland is covered and I know its being snowing across Tyneside, Wearside and North Yorks for most of the past 2 days, obviously worse in rural areas. Most schools etc are open aside rural ones, only a few inches in the towns and cities.

Not sure about the rest of the UK but the BBC 1pm News said it was heavy in Norfolk and on the East coast.

Strong start for Father Brown on BBC1 daytime yesterday. It got 2.1m, which is about twice what Privates was getting last week.

Glad to see that Father Brown did as I predicted last week and attract the Murder She Wrote/Diagnosis Murder audience. Like I said then this will get a swift repeat in an hour when others can watch (eg Sunday tea times as they did with Land Girls). I also suggested it will export well to other countries who are suckers for these fantasy murder mysteries set in Choc Box Britain of the 30/40/50s.

It has hit written all over it.

Incidentally, the ITV switcheroo has caused Sky's useless software to treat ITV HD as a brand new channel creating a new stack for series linked ITV 1 HD shows!

A factor to bear in mind related to this is Lewis. We recorded both one hours to watch as intended (one two hour episode) - how we noticed the Sky EPG glitch. Based on comments in next week's Radio Times (p.51) others are doing the same to bypass this silly move by ITV. If these are not watched together before the end of last night how will this effect the ratings? Could they be underestimated?

I think his name is Brendan O'Carroll but you're right, Mrs Brown and Miranda are way too popular now to not get a chance on Xmas Day.

Very good for Corrie to get over 40% share, dont see that often now. I think next Monday is Kirsty and Tyrone's wedding so might get over 10m

You were absolutely right Jaycee. It got that Diagnosis Murder crowd. Might even get a repeat in primetime to see how it goes. And talking of switcheroos it looks like ITV's retooling of Lewis as an hour long show is working.

"The first episode of 'Mr Selfridge' consolidated to 9.4m, ITV's joint most watched launch of a new drama since 2006 (fig includes +1)"

"ITV gameshow 'Tipping Point' was watched by 2.0m (incl +1) yesterday, one of the channel's top 5 ratings in the Monday 4pm slot since 2008"

Would be interesting to see if Ripper Street and Mr Selfridge are timeshifting similar amounts to last week.

ITV will be cockahoop to be scoring ratings like that at 4pm in the post-CBBC era.

But above all this appetite for daytime gameshows is showing no signs of abating. It would be interesting to know how many viewers are watching two or three a day !

2m for Tipping Point including +1 is magnificent! It just keeps on growing.

I guess 'My Mad Fat Diary' didn't appeal to what the channel were expecting. I personally thought it was going to be a documentary but a CBBC drama can get better without being trailed anywhere near as much so that's saying something.

Some CBBC ratings:

16:30 - Marrying Mum and Dad: 327k (2.5%)
17:15 - M.I High: 294k (1.8%)
18:15 - Fit: 230k (1.1%).

Corrie peaked with 10.43m (42%) inc +1.

How many viewers did the Golden Globes highlights get yesterday please?

Thank you hassan. Does that compare well or badly to what 5Usa normally rates? I thought maybe more people wouldve watched.

I think the problem was the trailer called all the viewers fat.

Not mentioned this on this thread (some may have seen this on General Discussion) but ive lost 5 stone over the past 9 months, and im feeling pleased with myself about that. I another have 5 stone to loose I know this, but I want to be happy to have reached half way, in a good amount of time.

Along comes E4 with its trailers declaring a weight lower than mine, to be fat. Kinda kills the slim feeling I was getting.

Last thing people want from their TV, is for it to call them fat.

I saw promos for My Mad Fat Diary on buses and billboards. So 300,000 is a very bad start to its ratings, should be getting closer to 1million.

5USA's second highest rating is around 700k. The majority of the ratings are in the 400k range. Without A Trace (one-off drama I believe) got 2.58m for the channel in 2008.

Did well in America too.

"Golden Globes on Sunday night averaged 19.7m best in 6 years, Adult 18-49 ratings were 28% higher than year ago."

Random, but I saw this on Twitter...

Quote:
“Dragonfly ‏@DragonflyFilmTV
Hello @TVRatingsUK do you have the ratings for What Happens In Kavos last night on C4 ? #Kavos Many thanks”

You'd think Liz Murdoch could hook them up with some kind of BARB subscription!

Anyway, the answer was...

Quote:
“.@DragonflyFilmTV What Happens in Kavos: 1.57m (8.7%) at 10pm on C4. It was the most watched in the slot with 16-34 yo's - 632k (18%).”

Doing well although not skewing quite as young as I'd have thought - must be lots of terrified mothers watching before they tear up the passports!

It's more than what the Primetime Emmys gets.

E's three hour 'live' programme last year picked up 44k (2.6%) but that includes people who recorded it and watched it at a more convenient hour within the 7 day window.

Over in the US the Globes got 19.69m (6.4) which ties The Big Bang Theory's 6.4 earlier in the week for #1 non sports show of the season so far. That was up 28% on the previous year and I'm guessing the highest in quite a long time. Bodes well for ABC and the Oscars.

Oscars will do well methinks, because unlike most years it's far from clear who is going to win best picture.

Anyone have any predictions how the Yes Minister remake will do tonight, I'll be watching for Old times sake and I know a few others will be too but I've hardly seen any promotion for it so I'm wondering what GOLD would consider a success?

I can only see "My Big Fat Diary" dropping.

I watched it, it was billed as a new "Inbetweeners" type comedy. It wasn't.

The humour was very gentle/subtle (read as rubbish) or it was totally over the top but missing the mark and ended up just not funny (mum and new boyfriend making loud sex noises, food fight). It was some hybrid between a teen drama and a teen comedy with neither the "grit" of skins nor the amusement of Sugar Rush. It just fell flat.

It was also 1hr long... too long... it should be 30 minutes, it was 1hr where not a huge amount happened.

The lead actress was pretty good but the actual content was poor. I won't be turning in again. I will switch back to Girls which i recorded last night.
