Caught a bit of Lady and Tramp, it looked fantastic in HD, far better than I remember from watching it as a kid thirty years ago. It rated very well for tea time. If only they had promoted it...

Wonder how well Mrs Browns Boys would do on Xmas Day? I'm almost certain we'll find out how well next year now....

Excellent ratings for The Snowman 2 and Mrs. Brown's Boys. In terms of content you couldn't get two more different programmes so it's bizarre that those two were the standouts! Not sure I quite get the appeal of the latter, but there's no denying the BBC have an absolutely huge hit on their hands there. I suppose the one disappointment is that the animated A Christmas Carol didn't do better, that's quite a low figure considering it had a really good timeslot. Maybe it was a combination of there being a number of other Scrooge related films on during the day and also the fact that it clashed towards the end with The Snowman 2. EastEnders meanwhile built up a bit of ratings momentum leading into the big day and in all likelihood will top the day today.

Huge ratings for Mrs Brown Boys and Outnumbered. MMB would get over 10m on Christmas I feel.

I've been saying the same thing for weeks. It could have had 6-7m on Christmas Eve but not one trailer! Idiots!

Channel 5 didn't fall apart like they normally do at this time of year. Their alternative schedule produced above average audience figures. With the possible exception of the royal documentary (one too many this year?) all the specials rated well/very well:

4.10pm Scrooge: A Christmas Carol: 1.23m (6.9%)
6.00pm Rolf's Animal Christmas: 1.10m (5.1%)
7.00pm World's Biggest Pets: 1.51m (6.2%)
8.00pm A Right Royal Year: 758k (2.8%)
9.00pm Eddie Stobart's Christmas Cracker: 1.34m (5.3%)

Great ratings for Christmas eve there. It's such a shame BBC One didn't have The lady and the Tramp before merlin. That said A Christmas Carol deserved more than it got. Good night though for BBC One.

I know its unlikely but is there a chance of a 10m rating tonight. CTM might be able to do it but it's only ever got 8m overnight so far. Strictly is in a good slot. I actually believe that EE will win against DA now somehow it's done it again! Gone from that awful below 7m on Friday a couple of weeks ago to pulling in half decent audiences again. And beating corrie!

Actually EE has done better than last Christmas eve! Can it do better tomorrow? Unlikely.

What's frustrating about Mrs Brown now is that, had it have been on Christmas Day, it could have won the night, would have been tough though.

Now though, we will never know...

3 very strong film ratings there. Remarkable that a 57 year old film is only just getting its premiere and is capable of such strong ratings. Maybe the Beeb should of had Christmas Carol and Lady and the Tramp the other way around.

How many people were watchign TV last night? Some big numbers for lots of shows out there.

Eastenders did very well, up 0.65m on last year, bodes very well for tonight and again quietens those saying it's the weak part of the line-up. Outnumbered also did fantastically well, 0.8m up on last year which was consolidate to it's highester ever audience.

MBB was the start of last night, it's heading for the 10m club very soon.

The Snowman did very well in a tough slot too and C4 had a good night with Stephen Fry and 10 cats doing well too.

I still think the main problem was just how many versions of A Christmas Carol have been on TV in the past couple of days. The BBC was basically too late to the party. It should have been on over the weekend.

yes that is a good set of ratings for C5, just not srue why so many people watched "World's Biggest Pets".

Don't knock it. It was only 500k away from matching ITV's 9pm offering. Also C5's biggest weekday 7pm rating of the year (exc. live football), shame they had to wait 358 days for it.

Next year they should do an hour long episode and there is no longer any need for the Royle Family which as much as I love it need's to be put to bed.

MMB may get less than the royles tonight but I feel on Christmas as you have said easy 10m material. Danny Boy will be cursing now.

Now what can Miranda do on boxing day? If it puts in 8m plus could that go on Christmas day next year if she can be bothered to make one in time.

BBC One may have very little sitcoms but they have some hits in there.

Wow! Mrs Brown's Boys most watched show of the night! Fantastic, what a hit! Really should have been on Christmas Night! Even if it's 22:45 after The Royle Family! Hopefully, to give the movie a boost (which I think will be filming in September 2013, so with a 2014 release) they will shoot another Christmas Special! If this happens, I can see it being the main BBC Christmas Day comedy, I don't think Royle Family will be back next year.

Anyone know why Kay Burley didn't present her usual Xmas Day morning slot on Sky today? must be the first year she has missed since the launch of the channel...

Very interesting rating for Outnumbered too. It's a great rating! I'm always surprised at how well it does tbh, but with ratings like that - it should not end yet. Even if they just have a Christmas Special every year - It could become a yearly tradition where we see what the year has done to the family. Jake going to University, Ben's first girlfriend etc.

I think it was just very well scheduled. Something light and fluffy for Xmas Eve that the whole family can watch. It's not the sort of doc C5 would normally air, but at this time of year you can get away with it. It's inoffensive, and clearly crowd pleasing. BBC and ITV have aired similar docs in primetime outside of holiday periods.

Well you might be right but I cant see the Beeb putting that kind of language on Christmas Day-there would be alot of flak.
