I agree, I hope they don't end it. But there is speculation that they may axe it after the fifth series because the kids may have become too old it's a shame as the ratings now are better than they were years ago.

Amazing for Mrs Brown's Boys and Outnumbered.

EastEnders finally seeing some uplift, a good figure.

Happy Christmas everyone

Great rating for the BBC comedies. Outnumbered getting seven million took me by surprise, seeing as the kids are a lot more older than the last series.

Good result for EastEnders too.

Some great ratings for EE and MBB! I was hoping the SnowmanSnowdog would do better but everyone's praising it, so it must've done better than expected. What did the original get for its ratings?

I'm actually pretty sad about the movie ratings, especially A Christmas Carol. That really deserved 7m+ IMO. It had a meaningful story, it was a smash hit at the box office and made by Disney! But to only get 3 million in a really good slot is underwhelming. I think movie premieres are just not the eyeball-grabbers that they used to be, even 6-7 years ago. The BBC have done a wonderful job promoting their shows, EXCEPT the movies. I have seen barely any promo for the films. I hope for good ratings for Shrek 4 (and Tangled) but I doubt it.

Oh, and come on EE for tonight! Hope it wins the night! Looking forward to it!

Shrek 4 will get more than it deserves, but im more excited about the EastEnders, Red Button Christmas Special, than that mess of a movie.

Other than Up! and this Lady and the Tramp, the BBCs film line up is poor this year. Tangled will do ok as well.

Maybe someone will dig it up as it was broadcast on 26th December 1982.

The emergence of Netflix, Lovefilm, etc poses a direct threat to film premieres on TV as with those services you are not tied down to the TV schedule. That said, I was slightly underwhelmed by Netflix' selection of festive films.

Merry Christmas, everyone!

After commenting on how lacklustre Christmas Eve usually is yesterday, there are a few really excellent ratings in there. The Snowman did great, even better when tape-checked, and will no doubt consolidate brilliantly too. Surely its headed to become C4's most watched programme of 2012? Can't argue with that!

Also, a brilliant night for the comedies. Mrs Brown is going to consolidate over 10m, I'm sure - and Outnumbered has steadily grown and grown over the years to record an excellent rating last night. With the Royles today and Miranda to come on Boxing Day, it's got to be heartening for BBC One to be recording great comedy ratings at Christmas again.

EastEnders did really well in comparison to last year - and Merlin was solid, if unspectacular. (I really thought the finale was dire, so I can't say I'm so fussed about that). The ITV soaps were strong too, though perhaps in retrospect a documentary (even one about a pop culture phenomenon) was the wrong choice for Christmas Eve.

I don't agree. I think it's the best lineup of films on the BBC in a long time.

You haven't mentioned the excellent How to Train Your Dragon. That's on tomorrow evening.

It'd have to consolidate by 3m to do that, the Paralympics Opening Ceremony is still the most watched of the year.

Don't forget the Paralympics. C4 has had plenty of event TV this year and they've reaped the rewards for it.

I think Ben & Karen being older took everybody by surprise! It was funny reading the reactions on Twitter. It shows BBC1 were right to end it after the next series. Thought it was a good episode though.

Ah, of course - the Paralympics. Had somehow forgotten about that!

Still, the point stands. I think the rating is really strong and a nice reward for the effort from C4.

I don't think she should be putting them up for the sake of one good rating. Just like wondering what Mrs. Browns Boys would've done on Xmas Day rather than Xmas Eve, you have to think if Snowman 2 would've done better on Xmas Day or at 6pm/6.30pm Xmas Eve.

Agreed. Big (and much needed) boost for C4.

But they won't have much in the new year. No Gypsy Weddings and no Paralympics. Programme budget has gone down and ad agencies threatening to pull out from C4 altogether.

I didn't know about those last two, that's a little worrying. I won't shed any tears about seeing the last of BFGW, though. Rotten television. It had surely run its course, anyway. However, it did rate well above average for them, and this is a Ratings Thread, so the downside is obvious.

For me the ongoing story at C4 is one of missed opportunities. The fact people still talk about C4 and Big Brother says it all, minus the aforementioned event TV they still haven't pushed on and showed us what they are truly capable of without it around. And they've had plenty of time and money to do so, but most of the time it doesn't aspire to be anything other than a frankly mediocre lifestyle channel. Not to mention missing out on the Formula 1 which would have helped them enormously.

Mrs Browns Boys got a wonderful rating, that is massive! And Outnumbered got big rating as well. Merlin fiinshed off well and Eastenders is back as the nation's favourite soap just in time for Christmas. Once again, pretty much all good news for BBC1 yesterday. The Snowman and the Snowdog and Home Alone 2 were very popular for C4, Ive still got to see the new Snowman edition because of the bad scheduling, it could have got over 5million in a better slot. Spice Girls documentary flopped like nearly everything has done on Itv1 at 9pm last couple weeks, what were they thinking showing this on Christmas Eve one of the most important tv nights of the year.

Two better rating episodes and suddenly it's the nations favourite soap again Jesus wept.

Beaten by Mrs Browns Boys, dented by the opposition, it will drop again after Xmas and it will not beat DA, CTM or SCD will be the number one show today with DA coming a respectable third. If EE gets 9m tonight then they better make the most of it because it will soon return to the 7m levels

Spoiler
and if the big EE secret is that Stacey's kid is Max's then how tragically boring that would be.

Be interesting to see what type of rating Miranda can get tonight, with the massive lead in they have, plus it being Xmas Day.

0 viewers and an all-time low audience for the programme and the BBC?

It's not on !

Jesus rejoices. I have it on good authority that Jesus is a big EastEnders fan, and loves nothing more on his birthday, to watch EastEnders, legend has it some of his later work is based on situations he has seen in EastEnders.

Appealed to a family audience - there'll have been loads of parents and kids watching TV together last night. Smart bit of scheduling.
