Mrs Brown's Boys won a BAFTA earlier this year as well as a Scottish BAFTA. It's much easier to write a show that nobody watches than one that people do. And it started small and got bigger so earned its way up the ratings ladder.

I find MBB very obvious humour. I could deliberately trip over and make it funny and people would laugh. That kind of thing.

but and far more important, Doctor Who itself was awesome, I smiled like, well like a little boy opening his Christmas presenters, mentally telling himself off for ever wondering if Santa didn't exist.

Shrek aside, if EE is half as good as it should be tonight, the BBC 1s Christmas will be redeemed in my eyes.

That's a very impressive ratings performance there for The Lady and the Tramp.

It easily beat all the more modern family films and animations like The Grinch, Gruffalo's Child, Ratatouille, a Madagasgar short, a Narnia sequel, Home Alone 2.

Who would have thought it from an animated film that's almost 60 years old now?
Maybe a lot has to do with it hardly being shown on terrestrial television?

Spice Girls seem to be the sort of thing the media people on television fall over themselves for. But anyone I know in the real world couldn't give a flying fart about The Spice Girls.
They'll have their loyal fans who've always been there, but most people have just moved on.

I'm quite surprised at how well it rated without promotion.
I only caught it on the off-chance not knowing it was going to be on.
Imagine if they had promoted it?
Maybe they should have as it must be a very rare outing for it.

They promote all the Pixar type stuff that has been repeated several times like your Shreks and your Ice Ages. Perhaps it might be worthwhile promoting old classics as well from time to time?

The others apart from Merry Madagascar and A Christmas Carol have been shown before. Aladdin when it debuted on Channel 5 did around 2m which isn't a lot but for 5 it was great, I can only imagine what The Lion King or Mermaid would do when they're eventually shown. I'm still impressed Home Alone 2 still pulls in an audience considering it's 20 years old.

I think HTDYD and Alice in Wonderland will do very well tomorrow, Alice has been promoted heavily.

Also pointing out that The Gruffalo's Child did pretty well for a repeat considering it's first showing last year got 7.64m in the consolidated's.

The thing with the animated Christmas Carol is that it's a strange one.
I bought it on Blu-Ray 3D and I think it's a very good retelling of the story.

However I imagine that many people will settle down thinking it's going to be a lighthearted fun kids film in the same vein as many other Pixar/Dreamworks films made like this.
But it's not. I wouldn't say that it's a children's film. It has quite a dark tone and I think its looks are quite deceptive.

I saw it in cinema and enjoyed it but it is dark which is closer to the book than most adaptations, the slot was right for it but it could have easily aired earlier and had Lady and the Tramp on later.

Room on the Broom was decent, wonder what children's book they can adapt next, maybe Stick Man which is by the same author as The Gruffalo, The Gruffalo's Child and Room on the Broom. I think The Tiger who came to Tea would make a fun short film.

I think Channel 5 should enjoy a good audience share with Gone with the Wind and Ben Hur although it take up a good chunk of the schedule.

I think the big hitters later on in the night, such as Mrs. Brown's Boys which did incredibly well, distracted attention away from how well this animated film did broadcast in the early evening.

It's just curious. I just don't know why. I'd be interested to know the audience breakdown for it to see how many were adults and how many were children.

Lady and the Tramp is shorter than modern animated films at 75 minutes, most tend to be 85-100 minutes long but I agree animated films tend to be faster than their older counterparts but that might be due to modern animation being able to do things that wasn't possible in the past. Something like the ballroom sequence in Beauty and the Beast and the flying carpet in Aladdin still holds up today.

I never watched Call The Midwife but I'm giving this Christmas Special ago .. Its very bleak! I can see a lot of people turning it off. Is it really the type of programme that the whole family can sit around and watch?

The daytime schedule from them is very good. Classic films that go on for hours and lock in an audience over a lengthy period of time. Excellent scheduling.

In primetime however they've chucked in the towel completely with the Stobart reruns. I dunno why, for example, they didn't hold back The Da Vinci Code which they aired last week. I think that would have cleared 1m quite easily, even with all the competition.

Just for fun, here's the Zeebox audience ratings so far today:

Shrek- 100% vs. Tangled- 80%
Room on a Broom- 100% vs. Tangled- 75%
BBC News- 100% vs. YBF- 63%
Doctor Who- 100% vs. YBF- 40%
Doctor Who- 100% vs. Emmerdale- 45%
Doctor Who- 100% vs. POG Dogs- 42%
SCD- 100% vs. POG Dogs- 62%
SCD- 100% vs. Emmerdale- 67%
Call The Midwife- 100% vs. Coro St.- 95%

Closest battle so far is Call the Midwife v Coro St. At points during the hour, Coro St. had higher % than CtM, but CtM had higher % more often. The Zeebox breakdown shows that CTM lost viewers from its lead in but has been steady in the last 20 mins. Call the Midwife is also trending above Coro St. on Twitter, which is a good sign for it cos its got an old audience normally who wouldnt normally tweet as much as Coro audience. I seen several people saying theyre watching CtM for the first time ever today:

Shouldn't be too close, ITV's film contained ads after all and the audience figures will dip for each and every one of those breaks.

We watched both. Shrek was a bit better than the last one I saw, although I still fell asleep, the food and alcohol having taken their toll by that point! I could see it having more universal appeal than Tangled, which was good but felt geared more towards a female audience. It reminded me a bit of The Beauty and The Beast, which was similarly popular on Twitter for its UK premiere earlier this year, but didn't rate as well as some of the non-premiere Disney films that C5 have shown.

Nice to see vicar of dibley repeat performing so well, a lot of today's sitcoms would be jealous of that figure. At first I thought it was a bad choice, but for festive Xmas eve late night fun, it fits perfectly!!

It is difficult to compete with BBC One and ITV1, even Channel 4 chucked in the towel with LOTR along its well timed with the release of The Hobbit so should get over 1m. The daytime schedule the competition is pretty minimal apart from Ramsay's Cookalong,
