Closest battle so far is Call the Midwife v Coro St. At points during the hour, Coro St. had higher % than CtM, but CtM had higher % more often. The Zeebox breakdown shows that CTM lost viewers from its lead in but has been steady in the last 20 mins. Call the Midwife is also trending above Coro St. on Twitter, which is a good sign for it cos its got an old audience normally who wouldnt normally tweet as much as Coro audience. I seen several people saying theyre watching CtM for the first time ever today:
”

How accurate is Zeebox at reflecting the ratings? These figures appear to suggest Paul O'Grady will be pretty close to Emmerdale. No surprise to see the closest battle here is between Corrie and the Midwifes. This is what we would be expecting with the ratings.

We watched both. Shrek was a bit better than the last one I saw, although I still fell asleep, the food and alcohol having taken their toll by that point! I could see it having more universal appeal than Tangled, which was good but felt geared more towards a female audience. It reminded me a bit of The Beauty and The Beast, which was similarly popular on Twitter for its UK premiere earlier this year, but didn't rate as well as some of the non-premiere Disney films that C5 have shown.”

Tangled IMO was a real return to form for Disney, The Princess and the Frog while good wasn't as memorable. Shrek Forever was a sastifying conclusion to the series and was an improvement on the awful third film.

I was surprised Tangled didn't have any ads for Disney's upcoming Wreck it Ralph, I know a few of the premieres on Channel 5 were sponsored by Disney films like Princess and the Frog etc

BBC One doing remarkably well to stay on time....usually CTM would still have another 5 minutes left...

Pretty poor, they often don't catch trends like #pogdogs
which was a top trend tonight but wasn't picked up by them in their tweet counter.

The Audience% numbers have nothing to do with twitter trends. The Zeebox "Buzz" does have something to do with twitter trends but that's different from the Audience% numbers I quoted.

Atm, EastEnders has 100% to Downton abbey's 80%. I think thats about the same difference as the xmas ratings last year for the two shows.

Yeah I would take their stats with more than a pinch of salt - I remember at the start of the year they predicted that Celebrity Big Brother would win a Friday 9pm slot with Public Enemies on BBC1 close behind. Based on their typical numbers Law & Order on ITV would have been well behind, barely scraping 3m. Law & Order ended up with over 5m and won the slot with ease. I wouldn't read too much into Zeebox.

Hope everyone's had a lovely Christmas. Relatives watching Downton so I've managed to escape! Great night for BBC1 last night - stunning rating for Mrs Brown's Boys with EE and Outnumbered posting great numbers too. Merlin ended well although A Christmas Carol let them down a bit. ITV's soaps did well (especially Corrie against tough competition) but terrible for the Spice Girls. Brilliant for Snowman/Snowdog and 8 Out of 10 Cats did very well too.

As for tonight, a few predictions:

Shrek 4 - 6.5m
Room on The Broom - 7m
BBC News - 7.0m
Doctor Who - 8.7m
Strictly Come Dancing - 10.2m
Call The Midwife - 9.7m
EastEnders - 9.4m
The Royle Family - 9.3m

Tangled - 3.4m
You've Been Framed - 4m
Emmerdale - 5.2m
Love of Dogs - 3.7m
Emmerdale - 5.4m
Corrie - 8.2m
ITV News - 4.5m
Downton - 8.4m

Ramsay - 1.2m
Lord of The Rings - 1.7m
Chatty Man - 1.6m

Including +1 where relevant.

L&O UK skews old with over 2 million viewers aged 65+, a lot for a show of its size, and obviously you wouldn't expect those to be well represented by social networking websites.

I only find Twitter and Zeebox useful for assessing how popular certain programmes are in the younger demographics. Not really for Total People.

On that night, Friday 6th January, the figures did show CBB to be a very very comfortable winner in the Adults 16-34 demographic. So Twitter was kind of right:

Celebrity Big Brother: 908k (19.9%)
Public Enemies: 401k (8.8%)
Law & Order: UK: 401k (8.8%)

inc. +1 and HD where appropriate

Oh I agree Twitter and the like are useful for predicting the 16-34 results, but it is basically useless for predicting the total audience figures. Which on a night where the main offerings include Call The Midwife, Downton Abbey and Strictly Come Dancing means that it isn't going to be much use.

Haha, indeed.

We'd be better off letting the DSRPG averages guide our thinking. I doubt we'll be far away on many, and certainly closer than Zeebox.

I would not be on the EE average being good tonight, I expect it will loose some viewers at the half way mark, the super exciting top secret, was predictable, and as ive said before, I question the integrity and the independence of soap "journalists".

Yeah but it opens up a whole lot more Storyline strands
The fallout looks outstanding. I think the peak will be towards the end actually.

The aftermath tomorrow looks excellent and continues right into January
