Have we had a list from highest to lowest? Top 20 perhaps?
Apologies if we have, just woken up and not gone through the whole thread... ![]() Fairly disinterested in the overnights. I watched the following yesterday on Sky+ in this order: Top of the Pops (around 6pm) Outnumbered (from Xmas Eve, 7pm) Doctor Who (around 8pm) Coronation Street (around 9pm) EastEnders (around 10pm) The Royle Family (around 11pm) Overnights are irrelevant for last night IMO. )

Just had a look and including BBC News, BBC HD (3D) and Sky News the total is boosted to 8.7m.

I wonder if Downton time shift will be down this year, as people caught up with it on ITV +1 after Eastenders, rather than watch The Royle Family.

I'm going to bravely predict Doors Open to come a cropper tonight and Miranda and Mrs Brown's Boys to both crack 9m.

BREAKING: EastEnders tops Christmas Day with 9.37m (34.3%) ! (excluding +1's)
Christmas Day 2012 BBC One 14:00 - Top of the Pops: 3.88m (26.6%) 15:00 - The Queen: 6.27m (36.7%) 15:10 - FILM: Shrek Forever: 4.92m (29.7%) 16:35 - Room with a Broom: 4.70m (25.3%) 17:00 - BBC News: 5.63m (28.8%) 17:15 - Doctor Who: 7.59m (33.9%) 18:15 - Strictly Come Dancing Christmas Special: 7.76m (33.3%) 19:30 - Call the Midwife: 7.27m (28.3%) 20:45 - EastEnders: 9.37m (34.3%) 21:45 - The Royle Family: 7.68m (30.1%) 22:45 - BBC News: 6.09m (30.3%) 23:00 - The Vicar of Dibley: 3.23m (20.8%) ITV1 13:25 - FILM: Toy Story: 2.00m (14.0%) 15:00 - The Queen: 2.03m (11.9%) 15:10 - FILM: Tangled: 2.90m (17.1%) 17:00 - You've Been Framed!: 3.15m (15.3%) 17:30 - Emmerdale: 4.70m (20.7%) , +1: 232k (1.0%) * 17:30 to 17:55 - 4.86m (21.4%) 18:00 - Paul O'Grady For The Love Of Dogs: 4.12m (18.2%) , +1: 188k (0.8%) 19:00 - Emmerdale: 5.98m (24.7%) , +1: 248k (1.0%) 19:30 - Coronation Street: 8.58m (33.5%) , +1: 254k (0.9%) 20:30 - ITV News and Weather: 5.59m (21.6%) 20:45 - Downton Abbey: 6.83m (25.9%) , +1: 488k (2.3%) First off, woohoo my bet on Eastenders under 9.8m has won. Had a bet on Shrek as well but not the hundreds/thousands of pounds some had risked. Glad it did the business too On to the ratings. Eastenders and Coronation Street seem to have come out of the epic clashes fairly well. Eastenders in particular whilst not a massive rating, ended up with a decent result. I really don't know how much of a medium or long term boost Eastenders will see though. Coronation Street did well against Call the Midwife, which I really thought would dent Corrie more than that. Doctor Who also had a nice rating considering the early slot and it was a nice episode to watch too. If anyone has the breakdown between LIVE viewers and VOSDAL viewers for Dr Who or indeed all of the programs last night, I would be fascinated to see that. Biggest underwhelmers for me are Call the Midwife and Downton Abbey. Call The Midwife was below the 7million mark for the majority of its runtime and only picked up an average above 7m due to the big peak at the end when ITV had news on. Downton Abbey should have capitalised on a weaker Eastenders and at least matched last years rating, however it did have the disadvantage of that news break beforehand. The news sent a big number of viewers off to BBC1 at 8:30-8:45. |

Something different next year?
Would like to see the Beeb break with tradition next year and do something different. A schedule like this would be great:
6.20 News 6.30 EastEnders 7.00 Doctor Who 8.00 Miranda 8.30 EastEnders 9.00 Mrs Brown's Boys 9.30 The Royle Family 10.30 Michael McIntyre's Christmas Show 11.30 News Plenty of variety there. CTM should air on Christmas Eve. ITV need to shorten Downton to protect its overnight - 2 hours is too much. 75 mins max, maybe even just an hour. Anyway, bit early for next year.... apologies...

So we can expect Call the Midwife to feature in the same slot next Xmas then? Is that your prediction?

Too right, OK BBC One had some gems like EE, DW, SCD last night and TRF was funny in places if now showing its age, but 75 minutes of Sunday night drama was a bit much for many viewers and the comedy classic of the Vicar of Dibley was OK but not remembered as fondly at Christmas as Morecambe and Wise or The Two Ronnies, who deserve a late airing.
In summary I think TRF might be one of the biggest improvers when the officials come out. |

Offerings coming up from Ben Elton and David Walliams. Think it may be time to pension off The Royle Family. A bit "meh" last night. Just as the Trotters should have stopped whern they became Millionaires in 1996 so TRF should have stopped with The Queen Of Sheba (Nana's fial episode) which was pure quality television IMHO. |

I wouldn't rule out The Royle Family getting another chance next year. I'm not saying it deserves one, but it's possible it got squeezed due to viewers who watched CtM catching up on Corrie after EastEnders and vice-versa. Also would have lost out to Downton, which may not be a factor next year.
In summary I think TRF might be one of the biggest improvers when the officials come out. Last night's episode was pretty poor and felt really tired too. I think they ought to wrap it up sooner rather than later, and I'm not sure if they'll want it on the big day next year, especially if Miranda does well tonight. |

Oh yes, that's another option for BBC1 next year - pull out all the stops to get Curtis and French to make a new Dibley.

Made money from EE being top (granted it was odds-on last week at 1/2, backed into 1/12), sounds like others did too.
The abandoned racing on BBC2 tomorrow has been replaced by 1959 film North West Frontier, and, (of course), Coast. I feel one of the Beeb's ricks over Christmas was Lady And The Tramp. Had they said "first time on terrestrial television" it could have got even more than it did. |

Surprised at CTM's share last night, it deserved to do better in that slot. Even more surprised at the Royle Family especially as it was a weak episode.
Like others, I think they'll go for comedy next year with Miranda and the return of Mrs Browns Boys. |

Well BBC One revived Ab Fab last year, which wasn't very good, and I doubt reviving Vicar would do much better as its glory days were when John Major was PM. I think these old sitcoms, just like a disastrous revival of To The Manor Born, though 10 million sat through what was totally unfunny and dated, are best left alone now. Auntie has Miranda and MBB as new hits and maybe is there a chance Catherine Tate can be approached again?

Are we actually any closer in knowing what the most watched programme is on Christmas Day - Officially? Is it likely EastEnders will keep hold of the title or cold Call The Midwife or Downton take it? I know the time shift on some programmes is huge!
