Total and utter nonsense.

You should actually look back at the schedules because you are obviously looking back with rose tinted glasses. New Year's day, New year's Eve and Christmas Eve all had films in the same slots last year.
Last year they had Narnia (repeat), POTC 3 (repeat) and Bolt (premiere) in those slots!!

A Christmas Carol on Christmas Eve aired in a slot where they always air films and nearly always repeats too!
2011 Narnia (repeat)
2010 Prince caspian (premiere)
2009 Shrek 2 (repeat)
2008 Toy Story 2 (repeat)
2007 POTC (repeat) This actually ran from 8.30 to 10.45pm on Christmas Eve!
2006 Chicken Run (repeat)
2005 they aired a Strictly special from 6.30-7.30 and instead aired a Shrek repeat on Christmas Day! Prior to strictly there was a Harry Potter repeat

2004 Shrek (premiere)

2003 Chicken Run (repeat)
Boxing Day!
All 3 POTC films premiered in Boxing Day slots and were actually in primetime from 7 to 10 pm in all 3 cases.
The only difference in this years schedule from last year is the BBC's adaption of The Borrowers being replaced by Alice In Wonderland. With this year's family drama Mr Stink having aired on Sunday.
Boxing day over the last few years.
2010 Upstairs Downstairs revival at 9pm with a Countryfile compilation and Antiques roadshow (which they were slated for on here) before that.
2009 POTC 3 Premiere
2008 POTC 2 Premiere
2007 My Family/Ballet Shoes (BBC Drama)
2006 POTC 1 Premiere
2005 Minority Report premiere
2004 Casualty special and Sherlock Holmes adaption.
2003 Meet the Parents premiere
Christmas Eve
On New year's eve Prince of Persia is a premiere which fills a slot which has notoriously been repeat filled for years.
2011 POTC repeat
2010 Jonathan Creek repeat
2009 POTC repeat
2008 I can't find but probably a repeat.
2007 The Story Of the Vicar of Dibley (repeat)!/Graham Norton Quiz
2006 Graham Norton quiz at 9pm with Little Britain Abroad repeats taking the 10.30-11.30 slot which he now usually has on NYE.

Neither Alice or Persia are animated

and A Christmas Carol aired in a Christmas Eve slot where they always air kids films!

I think I'd rather that than a Question of Sport outakes special, a Countryfile compilation or a New Tricks repeat which have filled similar Christmas holes in the schedules over the years.
I do hope your memory improves.
