Decent enough night for BBC1 I suppose....

Incredible for Miranda as well as MBB! Looks like comedies were the preferred choice over Christmas over drama. Isn't Miranda in the Top 3 ratings of the last three days? (Eve, Day and Boxing Day).

Kevin Whatley's Christmas just took a turn for the worse.

Miranda certain now to be the most watched "on the day" programme of the Christmas fortnight. Could even be the biggest overnight we see now until BGT returns.

Nobody saw that coming! I predicted 5.7m!

Just 30,000 viewers short of a

Fantastic for Miranda. And great to see comedy ahead of soap opera in the ratings. Be nice if they could do that on Mondays in the New Year but no doubt Lewis will help the soaps keep their lead.

Excluding EastEnders, the highest Boxing Day overnight since Pirates of the Caribbean in 2006.

And on Christmas Eve, excluding Corrie and EastEnders, Mrs Brown's Boys had the highest overnight on that day since at least 2005 (probably 2002).

A good Christmas for BBC comedy!

Huge ratings for Miranda and Mrs Brown's Boys - fantastic. Utterly dire for Doors Open though.

Awful for Doors Open considering the amount of trails in the past 3 weeks.

Watched it last night after MBB. God it was slow - a major let down. Then again, if it was any good it wouldn't have been held back for the ITV festive schedule...

So Miranda beat the dreadful Eastenders?

Wonder if the ratings will drop off over 30 minutes in the same way they did for TRB?!”

Mrs Brown's Boys was higher than on Christmas Eve.

Stunning for Miranda and MBB. Just stunning. Especially for the former, as I expected it to be around 7.5-8m and behind MBB. Awesome ratings. EE did well and Alice In Wonderland did OK too. ITV's soaps were a bit on the low side and That Dog Can Dance did OK-ish for what it was but it was never going to be a big hit.

It was originally meant to air in August (I assume the Bank Holiday weekend) but they delayed it to the Christmas period. Not sure if it was intended as burn off but that's certainly what they achieved! Absolutely dismal rating for it.

They didn't exactly help with the scheduling though - giving it a 3.5m lead-in from an utterly incompatible dancing dog show and airing it against BBC1's comedy double meant it was doomed from the off.

I think ITV's scheduling has been absolutely dire of late, and I do think half the reason why they've had so many major drama flops recently is because of how they've been scheduled.

Does Miranda have a long-term contract with the BBC ? If not they should be reaching for one.

I think this is supposed to be the last series. She might be persuaded to do one more episode for the promise of a Christmas Day slot. Miranda and Gary's wedding day might be a plot for it.

Wow for the BBC comedy hour ratings! Mirandas huge, and I'm not just talking about the actress. Mrs Brown rated even better than Xmas eve. Anf eastenders was top soap once again. Another good day for bbc1.

Another new Itv drama, another flop. Less than 2million for the heavily trailed Stephen Fry led show is terrible. Audiences have been repelling new drama on the channel all year.

This was stated in an article in The Sun, which said that the Christmas episode would also end on a cliffhanger, which it didnt. It seemed to imply that because she didnt have anything planned for 2013, that would mean the end of the show - or at least that was how I read it.

But I think the BBC would want to finally promote Miranda to Christmas Day with ratings of nearly 10 million

For the first time in years we watched ITV1 HD off air, for that dog programme (when my daughter's here she gets the remote!!).

So many ads were for furniture shops and the like in the Birmingham area (we get ITV1 HD Central), which were totally wasted on us, here in Torbay.

Not good for all the local SW advertisers, who no doubt filled the breaks on the local SD version.

(smug alert) When others & I suggested a few months ago on the Christmas thread that these 2 should air on Christmas day instead of CTM I was told Miranda wasn't popular enough

I think the nation has spoken.

You should ask Ronant, I think he won a lot from William hill, thanks to Shrek Forever after.

Astounded by both as well, MBB and Miranda deserved the win, cracking scripts and I see EE dropping back to 8.20 million, suppose it will be under 8m by NYE, the Xmas day episode was pants so I was surprised it came out on top.

As a family incident prevent me from commenting yesterday can I just say having seen CTM Xmas special I fail to see how popular it was earlier this year, dire and boring is an understatement in my opinion.

And a very respectable 8 million for Doctor Who makes me very happy.

Yeah! WillHill have settled my two bets for Strictly and Call the Midwife becoming the most watched . I was hoping there would still be a chance Call the Midwife could do it .
