but in fairness, ITVs share price has gone up since he joined, looking at the share price, ITV is a much more healthy company now.

the question is on what is that share priced based, because its not ratings, and im not sure ITV Studios can account for all of it, even with the improvements made in that area.

FTSE 100 - up less than 6% in the past 12 months. ITV plc up 55%. There's a lot more to ITV's performance than the end of year ratings chart on DS.

Not that their audience share has suffered anyway. Still pretty stable.

The share price is the highest in five years and he is the chief executive responsible for this. Why wouldn't he deserve a bonus and why would the shareholders want him to move on?

Ripper Street is going to struggle against Mr Selfridge certainly for female viewers.

As well as what has already been mentioned, ITV are currently half way through a 5 year 'Transformation' period that he put in place. Is it naive of me to think he'd see it through to the end?

Robbie, I just wanted to say that I enjoyed Ripper Street and considering the audience held up reasonably well, I don't think Mr. Selfridge will be the surefire hit you assume. What was it that you didn't like about it?

I thought Ripper Street was really good as well and will definitely be watching next week.

What I liked about it was that it just got straight on with the action. There was no character build up but the story just got dealt with from the onset. This for me made it more belieavable because it gave the impression that the characters have always been there! Sometimes shows like The Paradise are criticised because they are slow burners because they DO spend a long time introducing the characters!

Were you involved in the production? Because otherwise I have no idea why you'd be so defensive about a television drama. Watching the first episode is the very definition of giving something a chance. I watched it, I didn't think much of it tbh. Lots of sex, rape and violence against women to prop up a pretty thin plot. Not my cup of tea. It's overdone on TV and I thought it was pretty dull overall. Nevertheless, a good rating for it last night so we'll see where it goes from there.

I don't feel am being defensive I just don't understand how some people seem to b writing it off after the first episode. For example people are saying they didn't feel for the characters etc but this is because its the first episode so of course people won't have felt for the characters yet that wil take more then one episode.

Presumably, if it's not about the ratings of ITV1, then it's either the ratings of the other ITV channels, the performance of the studios, or a lowering of the cost base - anything else?

I don't always agree with him but I know he has a good grasp of the ratings game hence why I feel he has more gravitas on the subject than you and me, if I appeared rude then I apologise, it was not my intention for the post to appear that way.
