Lorraine Newman's work so far unimpressive?

Those are fair points but I can't comment on the other soaps as I don't watch them. I can only comment on EastEnders and my disappointment with the quality. I don't think the failings of the other soaps is a good excuse for EastEnders to be equally lacklustre. It should have its own standards to live up to. Regarding the car stunt what I meant is that it was unnecessary. Everything that has followed in the aftermath so far could have happened without an expensive stunt. It's all flash and no substance.

Agree with just about everything that everyone has had to say. Which is nice to know I am not just being a cynic and that there is actually problems with the show. To be very honest, since Brian Kirkwood... the show has been dire. I HATE what he has done! He is probably really proud of himself as well

My worry is that none of the leaked storylines for January (which surely must now be her sole responsibility) show any sign of imagination, or understanding of its current problems. It looks like all we have for q1 are just more love triangles. They are so boring these days.

Plus she just needs to either kill Zainab or have that whole family leave - Zainab and Massood splitting up would just be tedious and would probably involve yet another affair!

For me it needs a whole new set of characters /families where we can get back to hard hitting, properly researched stories. And she needs to make it less about just building for a Xmas reveal!

The show has lost its identity. Someone like PC at Corrie would be perfect at EastEnders should have got him when they had the chance.

Hmm though arguably Collinson and Coronation Street are/were a perfect fit. Just because someone works well on one soap doesn't mean they'll work well on another - look at Bryan Kirkwood (though I don't think he was as bad as some make out; certainly the show was in a better state than it is now.)
