Looking for a new TV - preferably 40" or bigger
I am looking for a new TV, preferably a larger one, as our current rather small 32" one is on the fritz [dead lines on the screen and lines that keep showing multi-coloured snow].
32" is far too small for our living room as it is dwarfed by the TV unit it stands on and since we have high ceilings, it just looks tiny. We sit about 11 feet away from it as well so it isn't the best screen size either. I've had a look at a few TVs in Currys and I am looking to spend up to £550. My father says I should get a Technika TV as he has one, but I've heard bad things and after having my previous two cheapish Toshiba sets die on me after a year I don't think "cheap and cheerful" is the way to go with TVs. http://www.tvandvideodirect.co.uk/sa...-with-usb.html - I figure for £408 I can't go wrong with this set. Any other suggestions? I'd prefer a Smart TV if possible and if it has 3D that's a bonus I guess. Also, what are the advantages to plasma sets? I notice most sets aren't full 1080p HD as they are very good at showing 720p HD. However do they not have higher power usage and shorter life span? |

go for a 46 " , you wont regret it
Also go for a ' Freeview HD ' tuner. That's why you will get good deals on older models that don't have ' Freeview HD ' tuner in them |

I'm not fussed for Freeview HD as we have VirginMedia, but I guess it'll be handy if we ever give up subscription TV.

In the end I went for the LG 42LM620T. It is amazing. The 2D > 3D conversion is fantastic on some shows and HD quality shows look great. Plus, you got 4 pairs of glasses for free.
Not had time to fully play around, but there's certainly plenty of stuff to do with it. |

I've yet to explore all the settings and apps. That said, YouTube is amazing - love controlling it with my Nexus 7. |

It seems to be very good with still pictures, but it's poor when it comes to displaying moving pictures without blur.
http://www.hdtvtest.co.uk/news/lg-42...ge=Performance says Motion resolution = 300 lines. (don't be too upset - there simply aren't affordable TVs without nasty faults in one respect or other - if you pick one with a fault you don't notice yourself, you'll be happy). Cheers, David. |

http://www.squidoo.com/samsung-3d-plasma-tv
The Samsung d490 is a great TV and has been less than £400 quite a few times. I got it from Marks and Spencer because of the 5 year warranty but they are sold by Amazon and quite a few other stores. The screen is 43" and the bezel is very narrow making the set look unobtrusive, even is a relatively dmall room. I wents for 3D over Smart TV as you can upgrade to Smart with a DVD player and even Sky has on Demand services now including iPlayer. |

I'm happy enough with the overall screen quality, just trying to optimise the 3D. At first we thought it was a bit rubbish, but it turns out we just had it set on "Low", oops.
