I love all of it, roast turkey as well as all the heavy fruit puds and cakes because we don't eat them any other time in the year. I don't eat fish so something liked smoked salmon would be avoided.

Dates, figs, mince pies, Christmas cake, Christmas pudding, stollen and anything else made with dead flies and bluebottles because that's what biting into dried fruit puts me in mind of. Horrible, I'm shuddering at the thought of it.

Same as me! I don't like fruit so any dessert filled with revolting dried fruit is a definite no for me.

Not keen on Christmas pudding. I could eat it but prefer say trifle or mince pies and cream or custard for dessert.

Why do people eat turkey at Christmas? The one day a year when it's time to treat yourself and people buy the cheapest most God awful meat imaginable. What's wrong with a nice duck, capon or even a nice 3 bird roast? Or even a nice slow cooked joint of melt in the mouth beef but Turkey? Hell no!

Turkey is what people put in curries to make it cheaper when you can't tell the difference between a nice fillet of chicken and cheap crap. I'd hardly call it a treat.

I agree with you. I suppose it's cos most people have big gatherings so a chicken ain't gonna be big enough. And the turkey is cheap to feed a big party.

But yeah, I hate turkey, I tried to once replace chicken breasts with turkey breasts in my cooking to cost-cut, and the result was I just chucked it all away and never bought turkey again. It crap.

I'm having just a small gathering this year so I'm just having free range chicken and some gammon.

It's just tradition that goes back generations so some people automatically think they should have turkey because it's Christmas. You can order turkeys from butchers all year round but not many people buy them at other times of the year.

Coz Jesus, Santa, Charles Dickens and Mr Coke met up and turned turkeys from green to red and stole some countries trees and stuff and said we must eat the turkey and surround it with blanketed sausage friends.

I think you mean Chocolate Log and pickled Red Cabbage. Turkey shouldn't be dry if it is cooked correctly.
