Is Christmas pudding the same as Christmas cake except with the cake extras like marzipan and icing?

Well, the ones I've eaten are so far apart theyre not even comparible. Like comparing the taste of a Christmas pudding to a Christmas cracker.

Xmas pud (and I've had one just now) is wonderful, beautiful combination of fruit tastes, piping hot, drenched in cream. Phenomenal food.

The Christmas cakes I've eaten, even before the woeful marzipan and icing, are drab, dry and pretty tasteless. Bit like wedding cakes some of them, which is the one food at a wedding everybody leaves, apart from if you were lucky enough to get a bit of cherry.

So who actually eats xmas pud and cake.? The majority here hate them. Is it just a tradition?
I think its just to much stodge after a big meal and we are doing it a disservice.

I don't understand the lack of love for marzipan. It's the best bit of the cake yum!

I love it. Best bit of the dinner for me. Big dollop of brandy butter on it and lots of double cream.

Agreed. It's all gross. Pork and apple sauce, tukey and cranberry, duck and orange. bleurghhhhh!
And then there's lamb and redcurrant jelly and sometimes duck is put with cherries. All a bit strange, although I have to admit to loving cranberry or apple sauce. When you think about it people put tomato sauce on all kinds of savoury foods and tomatoes are a fruit.

Ooh, I love Christmas food. Christmas cake, Christmas pud with lashings of cream, mince pies, Christmas dinner (except for the meat, and I dislike bread sauce) and anything else Christmassy. Yum.

I only like trifle without the sponge in, which then of course means it's not a trifle

I would find it difficult to know what is worse ... Trifle Yukkkkkkkk ... or Christmas pud Yukkkkkkkkkk again.

We usualy have an assortment of different ice-creams to choose from and mince pies if anyone wants them.

Love all of it - preparing it, cooking it, eating it. Love it all.

Can't manage any Christmas pud or Christmas cake on the day itself, though, and don't like cream on anything.

Love trifle, without the sherry.
My Mum has all the family over at some point over Christmas and lays on a big buffet. Some like trifle with sherry, some without. Last year my Mum decided that she would make 1 big trifle but only pour the booze over half the sponge fingers in the dish while layering it all up. She then made an "S" on the top half with sherry in with raspberries so she would know the difference as she preps everything the day before.

Little did she realise what would happen whilst it was sat in the fridge

Years and years ago someone tried to get me to eat duck with plums. As if.

"Mince meat" used to be meat, in medieval times, meat with fuit in it...sweetmeats....

(disgusting!)
