My manfriend has one in my cupboard, we'll be trying it on Sunday...

Last time my folks got one in an xmas hamper, we made it got it lit etc, we had one spoon each with custard or brandy sauce same horror and the rest got chucked out.

At least my other half will eat it all, if my kids don't like it..still meh, he has cream to go with it, i'll make some custard!

What to do about this lamb leg though hmm...

This is why I don't buy supermarket pies or flans because the pastry is just awful. Best to make your own if you have time.

Happily M&S have made some called the Ultimate all Butter Mince Pies which are not half bad. http://www.independent.co.uk/life-st...=gallery&ino=2”

I love puff pastry mincepies from Sainsburys but agree about the pastry. My problem is with people's home-made mincepies - I've yet to taste one that is decent and where the pastry isn't like concrete. Of course, they've put in the time and are quite proud of having made them themselves but I secretly wish they hadn't!

Must investigate the M & S ones..thanks for the link

I've been reading this thread and quoted posts at random - and they're both from The Wizard! Our minds obviously think alike..

I enjoy cooking the Christmas roast (and my turkey is never dry - I put streaky bacon on it and let it rest afterwards so the meat juices can penetrate)...but I love your idea of the Chinese takeaway. I'm all for letting others do the cooking and having more time to relax! Faffing around stressing out over making mincepies (see above post!) and "everything from scratch"...Fine if you enjoy it, but otherwise, it's so much nicer to go with the flow as you did that year!
