Recommendations for New TV & New DVD Recorder
Hello All,
I Realise this may open the floodgates, but that's exactly what I'm hoping for. I am just about to commit to a new TV and a new DVD Recorder. Cost will of course come into my final decision but I can be a little flexible (£750 - £1200). With all the knowledge on this web site I am confident you will lead me in the right direction. I want to try to secure as much "future protection" as possible. I know that is difficult due to the ever changing technology and affordability but a combination that will last several years would be a bonus. Thanks in Advance - I have pen & paper to hand to start adding up the different makes, models and formats. Scorpi01

All Panasonic Plasmas come with a free DVD recorder for a limited amount of time, if that's in your budget range

Your budget already puts you into the upper CRT bracket for the TV & really good HDD DVDR...
Together with the Boxing Day sales you may be going home with quite a nice setup.. I've been plugging fellow posters for a decent HDD DVDR & you can see the thread here: HDD DVDR Thread As for the TV, consensus of opinions suggest avoiding budget LCD & Plasmas as they fall way short of CRT quality unless willing to spend th££sands.. A fellow poster has provided vital reading on the flat TV debate: TV Article Hope this helps!! |

If it were my £1200, I'd be very tempted by:
Richer sounds - Daewoo Plasma for £999.99! Panasonic DMR-E55 dvd recorder - if you shop around you can find it for £200. As regards "future proofing", the daewoo won't be hi-def, but I dont know if that's a problem for you? |

Personally I'd get a large crt rather than a plasma, you'll get better PQ and save some money. There's no point in worrying about future proofing, by the time HD comes around the price will have dropped considerably and it will work out cheaper to buy later (even though you buy twice) not to mention improved PQ.
If you don't already have Sky+ I'd get that as it'll do more for your viewing pleasure than almost anything. |
