Why is Jack so disliked on here, is it Jack or Scott Maslen's acting?

For me, it's a combination of both. I do not rate Scott's acting. He is very wooden.

The character itself is dull. The same rehashed story lines, sleeping with blondes, getting blondes pregnant etc.

True! Can't believe he wins all the awards, he is not attractive in my opinion and reminds me of Alex Reid

I think its the character he plays. He just comes across as very arrogant and seems to have nothing much to recommend him. We rarely see him smiling or joking. In most scenes he is just being aggressive. Its a worry that the women of Walford seem to sail into his arms.

He's alright in my book . I dont understand all the hatred but i suppose its all down to personal taste.
Jack is best when he has different women coming and going , rather than shacking up with Shazza.
He is capable of big storylines and pulls it out of the bag when he has too.

Pointless, boring an annoying. Jack and Roxy should have left when Ronnie left for me they are nothing without her.

Apart from Scott's acting?

Neglecting his children, telling Ronnie that only one child mattered to him. Looked at photos of Richard not because he wanted to but to shut up Shirley. Had 4 children with 4 women, 3 of whom are from the same family. Meaning they will grow up really messed up and probably have no idea who their father is. His dodgy dealings put one of his children in a wheelchair for life, but when he was in a wheelchair temporarily he blamed Billie. Billie had not shot him but his ex did he did not see how that made him a hypocrite.

Whatever you want to say about Max he loves his kids. You can have many wives/partners in your life but Richard, Amy and Penny will only have one dad sadly its Jack. Who believes being a father is paying for them. Yet is all over Denny because he wants to shag the mother.

For me, it's a bit of both. He's a good looking man, but he can't act for toffee and the character's not a great character. I know more about Michael than I do about Jack. With Jack, you get the feeling that when he's finished work he just heads home and plugs himself in, or goes back to his cupboard to wait until he's needed again. There's absolutely no depth to him at all.

You said it best.

I don't like his whining arrogance lately too.

Awful actor and has never been a useful character really. All he does is get the mitchells pregnant and then become the worst father ever

Get rid of him

Would rather more of Derek than Jack

Exactly this. I can imagine a thread where we all sit around pretending what soap characters do in their spare time (for example: I can see Michael Moon going home after a hard day and getting drunk on whisky while watching Little Honey Boo-Boo and laughing himself sick) but when we got to Jack, it would literally just be: "Mitchell women", and that's it.

This. Maslen plays him so one dimensionally. There are no sides to him. No depth.

He's just the stereotypical soap lunk used lazily in storylines to get the girl all the time.

Compare him with SJS who has created a fascinating character out of originally very little.

I must admit that I'm not a keen lover of Jack myself, he doesn't even mention his kids in any scenes at all, Richard, not even Penny for christ sake. Jack only cares about himself I reckon, doesn't give a t*ss about anyone else.

All of this.

As for Jack, he doesn't bother me the way he does some...basically, I could take him or leave him...but he doesn't exactly light the screen afire, and seeing as we could really do with fewer Brannings, he'd probably be the most obvious to go (after Alice & Joey, of course).

Yes, this is what I think about him. And yet he is the first to have a go at others for doing the same.

I don't hate him, it just seems he is still there because he is a branning though. He hasn't had any amazingly good storylines and he is the weakest of the brannings. Even Oscar is better tbh. His is just a very very repetitive character.

I usually gravitate towards characters I would like in real and characters I may not like in real life but find interesting to watch. Jack ticks neither of these boxes. His arrogance isn't appealing, he has no personality or sense of humour, he has no morals, he doesn't care about his children except when he wants to and he's dull. His continued presence is justified by the fact he wins Sexiest Male awards and is a member of the Brannings. He should have been written out long ago because his character has never been successful. Both Jack and Roxy revolved around Ronnie and without her they serve little purpose despite the writers atempts to give them some.

Agreed.

I didn't mind Scott at all when he was in The Bill, though.

And he's not a bad dancer
