Like many, I suspect, my favourite is "Carry On Screaming", probably because it's the best standalone movie that anyone can enjoy, not just those who enjoy the Carry On films in general. The script, cast (Fenella Fielding was a great foil for Kenneth Williams) and even the cinematography all came together to make a great comedy film... "Cleo" comes a close second though!
"Jack" is probably disliked because hardly any of the regular cast appear, and it's almost too plot-heavy for a Carry On, too... and Juliet Mills just isn't funny! |

Another vote for "Screaming"
Carry on Camping is of course is brilliant but the last scene with the "Hippies" is awful, almost feels like another film. |

It's not the most love one by any stretch, but I always enjoyed "...At Your Convenience". Don't know why, but it just really clicked with me.

The ones I'm most often up for watching are Henry, Abroad, Dick, Up the Khyber, and Don't Lose Your Head. It's interesting that Abroad is my favourite of the 'non fancy dress' ones, since it came at the late stages where the contemporary entries were generally regarded to be becoming more comedically weak and over-reliant upon ever-increasing crudity.

Many have said in the past that the series peaked with Up The Khyber and Camping in the late 60's and whilst I'm inclined to agree there were several pretty decent additions afterwards like At Your Convenience and Girls.
And although many would think it's utter rubbish Windsor Davies and Kenneth Connor's performances in Carry On England still makes me laugh.

Behind or Abroad. Crass and crude but I do have a soft spot for them.

Carry on Screaming.
It's the only one I don't feel slightly uncomfortable watching. Probably because there is not so much of the over the top innuendo. But I DO Like a few others. Sergent, Follow that Camel and Constable. |

As well as introducing an unabashed array of naked male bottoms to the screen; Constable contains arguably the most blatant, over-the-top, in-your-face, outrageous, obscene piece of innuendo of the whole series - when Sid James (IIRC) berates one of the effete amateur bobby protagonists with the totally unambiguous harangue "You stupid CONTstable"... When I watched it again a few months back, I was truly flabbergasted that that made it through the censors of both the time, and indeed today's hyper-sensitive daytime TV watchdogs.

Camping for me. Saw it twice in the cinema during a wet holiday in Cornwall. Many times on TV since.

Carry On Henry - Sid James is perfect as a lecherous old king.
Don't Lose Your Head - the series was funniest when it was in the past and always looked very good considering the budgets (so did Hammer movies). I'm probably alone in this, but I really don't like Screaming very much, although that's possibly because I don't like Harry H Corbett, and Carry On Behind deserves a mention for making a good effort while missing half the cast, plus it had Elke Summer chasing Kenneth Williams and jokes about having it off. The less said about Carry On England and Carry On Emmanuelle the better. |
