But she's a northerner.
And surprisingly he has bought her.

Good for Ash

Karen really likes her.

Lucy would've won if it hadn't have been for that boardroom

Bit silly. The winning marketing concept was better presented, but waffle. The other one had a better concept, but was sabotaged so it looked so bad it couldn't win even if he was prepared to ignore past faults. . Neither of the last two has a business idea. Both the other finalists have a business up and running he could presumably invest in.

I was actually thinking of taking up cycling, now I'm not so sure. People might think I'm having the mid life crisis and I'm only 32 (nearly). It's put me off a bit. :-/

Lucy lost the moment she mentioned University and grades.
Zara was a top flyer, she's hoping for Oxford...never mentioned it once even when James was prattling on about his economics O level. Thats smarts.

Better to speak up than to walk out wishing she had said more to defend herself.

Seems the university curse has struck again. Sugar likes graft not degrees!
There is a time for speaking up and a time for showing others consideration and respect.
It may be that it was a lapse in manners and over active ego that lost it for her and not her university education.

He's repeatedly made the point that he hasn't seen much of Lucy and the word quiet has been used about her. She needed to counter that and used the only chance she had. Her problem is that she didn't offer any way to spend the money on the cake busines and mentioned academics - which undermined the attack she could have made on Ashleigh's proposals. Accountancy is a degree subject too, and its difficult to see how you could get her into property with 25k evn if he wants to. Lucy tried to do what Zara did to James - but Zara pinned him straight away, only offered her business and wisely never mentioned her own academic aims.

Thats why its bizarre - because both Maria and Patrick could have offered better business proposals - an online business for further investment or support for his design work/research. If he had split the two of them you would have had a very interesting decision between show records and business drive and a business proposal. This time he picked the one with the better show story and the one most different to last year's winner.

Don't let it put you off, and who cares what Maria thinks.

Some time ago, hub and I came across a couple, where the guy was quite advanced in age, a keen cyclist, and wearing right gear. Got his daughter and grandkids involved too,and they cycle everywhere. The stamina he had for his age was quite something, but he wasn't going to sit at home and fade away.

So put on your new cycling gear, get a proper cycling bike and have fun....

Evening - did LS really start his career at school? He should have mentioned it..
Indeed he should have told us, and to be told by someone else isn't good enough.

No, it was not the only chance she had. She had been spoken to and he had moved on to speak to Ash.

That's all there is to it really.

But she hadn't said what she wanted to, and she wanted to comment on what Ash had said. Its a series final boardroom and you don't win by not pushing their case or never interupting an opponent. Its not a competion for being the most polite and quiet. She just wasn't good enough at it to reverse the tide rolling against her.

Why was it waffle? They went with what the market research told them, and there's definitely a market for ethical street wear that opposes big corporate 'style over substance'.

I think the cycling brand concept was very flawed. The only thing they got right was choosing a growing market. Cycling requires a bit of investment, bikes don't come cheap and you're going to want good kit. So why aim it at broke young people? I don't think they had thought it through properly.

I think the girls have an advantage in this show, because they're all more mature than the boys. My brother said the winner is more like 34 than 17 and he does have a point.

Where's she from, is it Mansfield?

The right team won, and I understand why Sugar chose Ashleigh's hard graft over Lucy's creativity. It's very much in keeping with his own style to favour perspiration over inspiration. I'm not saying that's a bad thing, I'm just saying that Sugar saw more of himself in Ashleigh than Lucy, so he was always likely to be more sympathetic to her. Personally I find it very difficult to work with or for people like that, who are loud and dictatorial and won't listen for long enough to allow others to be heard. But then one man's dictatorial is another man's decisive. Horses for courses.

Lucy wasn't entirely convincing in the boardroom, but I would still have gone for her - but then that's my style as a quieter, more creative type like her. I do think she had more wow moments in the series than anyone else - her cakes in the afternoon tea task (very much on home turf there) and her logo design here, which given the limited time available to them was stunningly good in its execution.

Overall, though, I don't think any of this year's candidates were as strong as either Arjun or Zara.

For what it's worth, here's a link to my final recap:

Just watched it on catch up. On the one hand I'm not surprised he picked ashleigh because she's more like him, but on the other I am because she didn't have a plan...might go into property management, might become an accountant...all a bit wooly. Lucy at least could have built up her cake business while she studied (though I think mentioning going to uni was a mistake).
