Well done to the winner. I am so pleased she won.

Would have preferred Maria, but out of the final two, the best one won.

She was deserving, but so was Lucy. Ashleigh needs this more than her though, so I'm glad she won.

For most of the series I've wanted Lucy to win but in the past couple of episodes I switched to Ashleigh. So I was happy either way.

Just as long as their team won I didn't care.

I am as well. I was a Lucy supporter throughout, however I think you can tell that her future is with Law and she wouldn't have made as good use of the 25 grand as Ashleigh. Well done Ashleigh! I'm over the moon the other team lost, two of my least favourite Apprentice candidates EVER, I would have been livid if they won

Fair result I thought, as Ashleigh will do well.

Maria could have won had she stopped and thought re what she was doing over the weeks, as walking over others isn't the way forwards, and I hope she looks at herself, and admits her faults, and only then she could make something of herself. But if she doesn't then she stays a life loser, which would be a pity.

She was remarkably restrained dealing with the complete mess Patrick was making of her chances tonight. She should have won on her ability to devise and run with a coherent theme - which no one else showed - and her business propoal where the two finalists offered nothing much to beat. Its unknowable whether she was left with the hopeless case of Patrick - making a loss inevitable - because of her earlier show story or chance. She should have beaten either of the girls on that final performance, or her proposal, if it hadn't gone with records. I suspect she will make more than any of them, and probably lose it a few times too.

I thought he would have kept Maria in the process picking out of the three and fired Patrick for being a complete donkey.

I guess in a way, she was doomed for failure being paired up with the plonker.

I'm pleased too, I liked Lucy but I think Ashleigh could probably benefit more from it.

Maria and Patrick would have lost even if the ad had been good. I don't buy the 'urban' cyclist brand. Cyclists invest quite a lot of money in their hobby (bikes don't come free!), so it doesn't make sense to aim it at broke young people. The logo was a bit rubbish too. The other team's brand was stronger on all counts.

Has anyone noticed that in all three series of Young Apprentice, the eventual winner has been PM in Week 5? Arjun was, and so was Zara.

I was pleased with the result as well. I didn't want Lucy to win. Ashleigh and Maria did work very hard throughout the whole process. Lucy, while she is a smart girl, didn't seem like the grafters that the other two girls were. I think that they would take on anything whereas she just comes across as a bit privilaged. I could be wrong but it is just my opinion.

I was glad Lucy and Ashleigh made it to the final two. Also glad that sneery Maria was not there as all she did was put downs.

I felt Lucy lost it when she said she wanted to get further qualifications, we know by now Sugar does not like academic qualifications and would always choose the grafter.

It was neck and neck, well done to them both.

I would still have picked Lucy, but no complaints in the end that Ashleigh won. I had several concerns about her before the final, and she allayed several of them - although I still don't like the way she veers towards dictatorial in terms of leadership style (though she was MUCH better tonight).

In truth, I thought both of their explanations for what they would do with the cash to be rather weak. Ironically, Patrick's fashion business was a much better investment prospect (although a high risk one) than either Ashleigh's or Lucy's.

Wow moment of the series for me has to be Lucy's logo design, which was stunningly good given the constraints of the task. But Ashleigh's video concept was also very good.

Some random reflections on the final here:

It is difficult commenting on people who are so young (there's no way I'd have been able to cut in on the Apprentice when I was that age), so I'm trying to keep that in mind. I can't see Maria taking a good look in the mirror; instead I think she'll remind herself that she did extremely well to make the last four and she'll be convinced that she'd have won the show had it not been for Patrick.

Much of this is true, of course, but that doesn't mean that she has nothing to learn or improve upon......... the trick is to see this and I don't think she will. She does have a tendency to get her way by telling others what's going to happen rather than by persuading people - persuasion is, of course, much better in the long run as you'll get people on board and this will have a positive impact what is achieved. She also reacts badly to not getting her own way, with the passive aggressive sighing and rolling of the eyes.

I don't think Alan Sugar really intended to have her win but she polarised opinion and that probably resulted in better viewing figures. Going back to my first point, she is still very young and I think that she'll mellow in time and I'm sure she'll have a successful career if that's what she wants.

Wrong person won and Ashleigh didn't even have a business plan, so why was she even on the show.

What will you do with the money Ashleigh?

Err well I want to be an accountant.

So how will that money benefit your business plan?

well I also want to go in to Property management.

Good luck buying property in any other country than Bulgaria for less than 25k.

The right two were in the final but it's a shame they both couldn't have won.
Congratulations to Ashleigh but I was suprised Lord Sugar didn't pick Lucy or offer to help her with her university fees seeing as she had a clear plan for her future.
Anyway hope that Lord Sugar gave them all his card and not just the two candidates who were shown being given it when they were sacked.

What was Lucy's business plan? To put herself through law school, and then go work for some company that deals in food. That's less of a plan than Ashleigh's was. Ashleigh wanted to start her own company. Lucy wanted to work for someone else, after becoming qualified in an irrelevant field.

Lucy was by far my favourite contestant this series but, were I Lord Sugar, I'd have given the money to Ashleigh, too.

I think Lucy had it in the bag until they started to discuss their Business Plans, she was very hesitant about what to spend the money on, putting herself through Uni. to study Law then maybe expanding her already profitable Cupcake business, it all seemed a bit vague, and, although I preferred her plan to Ashleigh's obviously LS saw less hesitance in Ashleigh, I agree though that she will have trouble starting a Property Company in the UK for 25 grand! and yes, just what the World needs now - more Accountants!!

Regarding the Final set up, I think if they have 4 Finalists, then they should work individually with so many returning contestants helping each one, instead of in teams of 2, it gives them all a chance to shine, without being bogged down with dross (yes, Patrick Im looking at you, NOT a fan of Maria, but she deserved better than Patrick) and it would be easy to follow, as they do more or less the same with the main and sub teams in the other tasks. just a suggestion.

But she didn't mention her cupcake business except for in the context of saying that she's a hard worker because she's managed to start it up and keep it going, despite doing well academically. She explicitly said that after she'd been to university she'd want to join an already established company which was somehow involved in food. Her plan was to go to university and then get a job.

To be fair to Maria, she has toned it down considerably in the last few weeks, and Patrick really did sabotage their chances.

But they'd likely not have won anyway because their concept did not make commercial sense. As Andrew interjected at one point: you can't say the prospective customer has no money.

The lesson for future Apprentice candidates must be that if you spot a gap in a multi-billion pound market which has been ignored by the global brands, then carefully analyse why the big players have passed by that niche; the chances are that they are right and you are wrong.

The Cyc concept was fundamentally flawed because they were targeting a market with very little money. As for Maria's idea that buying nice clothes would encourage people to cycle - puh-lease. Nice try, and I accept that she was tap-dancing on the spot at this point, but it underlined just how weak their concept and their execution were.

I'm not sure Release's concept was much better - it's a pretty crowded market they were talking about entering - but their execution, both in terms of the logo design, tagline and viral video - was vastly superior.

Apprentice candidates? Careful analysis?

(Although, to be fair, they are given pretty limited information when starting their tasks, and it's not as if a 16/17 year old has built up the relevant life experience to really understand all these potential markets.)

I do think their concept was better. The whole "ethical" thing was obviously not fleshed out properly (and they couldn't exactly say "no sweatshops" in front of people who make sportswear), but they only had 2 days. The idea of an ethical brand of streetwear is not a bad one, even if they didn't have time to work out any kind of way to make that practical.

The funny thing is that I thought that one of the guys in the focus group gave them what should have been their tagline - "supporting people who do". Have that the strapline for the company, and have just "people who do" be the slogan on the clothes. I don't think "Release" was a great name, as it didn't really tie in to their concept but, then, I don't think a representative from Adidas would have any grounds to complain about a brand name or, indeed, the idea of an ethical brand, given that the name is a portmanteau of "Adolf Dassler" who, before he founded the company, was a member of the Nazi party.

So, "Release" was as good a name as any seeing as they weren't coming up with anything they could agree on and were wasting time with it. It would have been cool to come up with some kind of FUBU-like brand name that meant something connected to the ethos* behind the brand, but it wasn't hugely important. I mean, how many people who wear Nike will know what it's a reference to?

It would have been nice for them to come up with a symbol of their own that they could use for branding, like the Nike swoosh, or the Adidas trifoil but, again, under the time constraints you can't expect them to come up with something that's perfect, and Lucy's decision to make the "R" a bit of branding by itself was absolutely the right thing to do.

*Actually.."Ethical Outwear Style" or something wouldn't be terrible. Well, perhaps it would, but no worse than "Relapse", or whatever they settled on.

I do think the concept was better, just not THAT much better, Where they were vastly superior was in the execution and the depth of thought behind the brand. As I've said elsewhere (and in my blog), Lucy's logo design was a huge wow moment for me - I think a professional designer would have been proud of it. I'm just unconvinced by the positioning in a crowded market already populated by big brands. But then, for me, this task wasn't so much about finding a new gap in the market, it was about having *an* idea and then having the business nous to develop it as well as possible. In that respect, Maria (carrying Patrick) did OK, but Lucy and Ashleigh were streets ahead.

I thought the focus group when talking about ethical was that they wanted their clothing to brand them as ethical. Maybe not so much that the brand was really ethicla, and running charity groups etc. But they wanted their clothing to not be 'cool' as such, but reflect their own values and community spirit.
When Ashleigh (or Lucy) talked about running groups for the kids during the pitch I think they kind of lost the plot. It's all very nice and good etc, but not not really achievable especially for a new business.
Did I get confused, or was it a bit of a collection of good ideas without a clear focus and structure?

Having said that, I think the video Ashleigh made was absolutely brilliant. I really liked the shots of the members of the public laughing and responding well to the dancers. And I really liked the clothes, I loved where they placed their slogan along the sleeve by the elbow, and down the shin of the trouser leg. I want one of the red hoodies! The brand could be really successful i believe if they had said during the pitch that people running these community clubs are really caring people that want to encourage and engage with people in their communities to have a focus to release their energy and creativity. The brand supported their ethos and wanted to work with them to help spread this idea of community spirit etc. Their clothes had all this in mind and are made to reflect these values, not just advertise a sports logo.
