If this was the case the producers would try and get back at her by killing off the character (which they are not) Nina has a number of projects on the go so it's not a surprise she wants to quit EastEnders.

Unless there's a link /source for this then i'd say it's rubbish

If it's true then I applaud Newman for not giving in. The breaks have become tiresome and unrealistic. Though I must say Zainab would have been an easy one to write out for a break. She often doesn't appear for long periods of time. Aside from that she could have went to Pakistan for 6 months or longer and then returned as easily as she left.

I don't agree. Just because there've been hundreds of females taking breaks from EE, why should Nina be punished. She's been there longer than, Charlie, Lindsay and Patsy in their current runs. Charlie and Patsy have children as an argument (although Charlie going on IACGMOH kind of negates that argument).

They should be doing anything they can to keep Nina, she's such an amazing actress, on a par with Lindsay and much superior to Charlie and Patsy.

Of course I haven't mentioned June Brown because her longevity and age are unquestionable.

Policy changes often happen in the workplace. No one is punishing anyone. The 6 month breaks were detrimental and unworkable and have now seemingly been abolished. Wadia simply missed her chance. The rest of the production can't be expected to hang around waiting for actors to return. The show must go on.

more characters need to be killed off. Not all but some to prevent this "hope" that they will one day return.

Surely it would have been better to kill Zainab off rather then split them up for the 199th time? It gives other characters like Masood more storyline possibilities without the threat that one day Zainab will return and recycle the same old rubbish storylines again!

I'm not surprised either. She signed a two-year contract in Oct 2010. That ended Oct 2012. I guess she decided not to renew it. I don't blame her really.

She was never going to stay around forever I'm sure they knew that when she originally signed in 2007. She's had quite a distinguished career and often been involved in various different projects before and during her stint in EE. She was always going to leave to pursue other projects. The same with the actor who plays Masood - he's been in films as well as many different TV shows and comedies. If they had wanted two actors to stay around forever they wouldn't have cast Wadia and Ganatra.

It's a shame that it is someone as talented as nina that is the first casualty of a change in policy if true, but I agree that this lengthy sabbaticals had to stop. They really do harm the show in a big way and really, everybody should be entitled to them if some are. Really it has to be an everyone or noone policy for those people that say the actors work hard and deserve a break, it's not as though they don't get an annual holiday entitlement like everyone else and no other profession allws it's workforce to take 3 or 6 months off in a block every year, especially not to take on other paid employment.

Nina is filming her final scenes just 3-4 months after Marc Elliott did - Syed left in November, Zainab will be going around March - so I think it's more likely Nina could see the writing on the wall in regards to Zainab going round in circles and Marc's exit just made her decision easier.

Spoilers out now state that Masood sets a date for their re-marriage: Valentines day. My guess is that the wedding doesnt go ahead for whatever reason and she leaves then.

Yes Valentines Day seems quite likely, or at least not long after it. Plus we know Masood has a newlove interest on his hands.

I predicted she wouldn't stick around for many years longer when she said in an interview that she knows when the time is right to leave a soap. (Or something on those lines)

I couldn't agree more. possibly the biggest mistake this show could make. Get her back NOW before you lose her for good.

I completely agree. It's ridiculous how the storyliners have to think up these outlandish plots to try and explain why a character will leave for 6-12 months. It'll be interesting to see how they explain Tanya's exit again.

Some of the cast want one foot in the show and one foot out of the show. To me, it shows a lack of commitment but it also shows that some of the cast just use the show as an easy way to get a bit of money when it suits them.

TPTB should tell the cast that they should either be fully committed or not at all.

Over her time in the show she's appeared on Mongrels, Dr Who & the Keith Lemon movie as well as various stage productions. I doubt she went because she wasn't granted a break, EE have seemingly been very accomadating to her extra tv roles
